As a Brown Belt I was able to look at peoples profiles fact check and verify. Now as a Black Belt I need to be verified myself before I can verify others. It seems I should still be able to verify as a Brown Belt until my Black Belt is verified

But you're claiming you're not a brown bent anymore, so if you were to verify others as a brown belt, it would be a false verification, assuming you are actually a black belt now.

When you become a Black Belt you are no longer a Brown Belt. You have moved from Brown Belt to pending Black Belt. I was just thinking you still should be able to verify others until you have been verified.
I read in one of the forums it took a guy 7 months to be verified. That’s a lot of in between time. Just curious

When you update with your promotion you lose verification and ability to verify until your new rank is verified.
With your new rank your vote counts for 100 points towards anyone you vote to verify.
It is how the site works.
The only time you do not lose your verification for a promotion is when your promotion is based on "time served" otherwise it will reset.
There are other changes you can make to your profile that will also make you lose your verification.
Please see the FAQ on the subject.

Hope this helps.

Was it poor evidence or a lack of easily verifiable lineage? Nowadays, I see quite a few people getting verified quite quickly. Sometimes too quickly, when they receive a lot of votes that are just cast routinely without really looking into the evidence and then people seing these verifications and verifying because they have been verified by others.

I really have no idea. I just read it in one of the forums.
I agree that most should be fairly easy to verify. I guess the more difficult ones are people who do not compete they do not know a lot of people outside their own gym and also do not have any competition pictures to post.

The ones I find most difficult, even though they have good evidence of the actual promotion, is those not recognising that they have a quite long lineage (which they might not even put on their profile) with generally unknown instructors who don't even show up with a reasonable amount of time spent on google.
It would be preferable if their instructors (and their instructors in turn) would join Beltchecker, up to where it's easier to verify. Otherwise, I really like it (although it's rare) when they themselves provide third party links etc. helping to verify the whole lineage up to the first well established name.

That’s a good point that I never considered that someone may receive there Blackbelt from someone who is not a legit Blackbelt
My Professor received his Blackbelt from Rodrigo Texira. Also I think IBJJF does a good job of verifying before they allow you to compete

Nobody want to bring his instructor on beltchecker anymore, because some crazy guy right there gonna call them sandbaggers.... then gonna ask them for their bird certificate, finger print, blood test or whatever...

Don't let this discussion become an exchange of insults because you do not agree with someones criteria for verification.

None taken, but I dispute your BB in communicating to what extent you're joking :-)
Would be good if students explained to their teachers what Beltchecker is about before bringing them here. They should at least know they first need to have their bird certificate in order!
