Stronghold Jiu Jitsu is a continuation of Via Potentia Self Defense, which started around 2007. We emphasize practical techniques and good training in a safe, friendly environment.

Questions
No. Most of our members started as complete beginners. Come to a class for beginners and we take it from there.
Comfortable training clothes, water and something to wear on your feet off the mat. Ask us if you need to borrow anything for your first class.
Yes. Book a trial class and come and meet us. You decide afterwards.
It presently is a small, home-based gym in a basement with about 200 square feet of mat space -- room for about 6 adults to train at once, and 4 to do (controlled) live rolling.
There is a bathroom for changing.
We have had participants from teens up into their sixties. We adapt the training to the ages and abilities of the participants.
We encourage competition but do not require it. Many of our participants are "hobbyists" who do jiu jitsu as a healthy activity, for fitness, or similar.
We do not require that you buy uniforms or equipment. However, a mouthpiece is STRONGLY recommended.
Murray has earned four black belts in different arts/systems over his martial arts life (and color belts in several more). His most recent black belt in Jiu Jitsu was granted by Walter Vital of Cascao Jiu Jitsu. Stronghold is a Cascao JJ affiliate.
