Re-verifying after updating non-current belts

Hi all,
Just had my facebook memories pop up where I had a post from my first BJJ class. Originally when I made my profile here I didn't know 100 percent the exact date, so I ballparked it.
Now that I have updated the date to the accurate start date, I have to have my whole profile re-verified. Seems odd that making changes which have no effect on my current rank means full brown belt re-verification is required (including all the points). I get that those who had voted for me will be notified to re-vote, but doesn't make much sense to redo the entire thing when I have only adjusted a start date on an old belt.
Anyone else with thoughts on this?

I believe it does indeed make sense that every change must be re-verified by those who voted for you. Imagine someone having been a blue belt for 6 months getting verified. Then he changes the dates to look like he's been a blue belt for 10 years in order to convince someone to promote him earlier. Or a verified black belt who backdates his promotion 10 years and then can claim 3 degrees on his belt :)

I did it to and honestly it's no big thing compared to what the IBJJF makes you do to verify.. It's actually reasonable

Yeah I have a cool photo that I have just found from my blue belt promotion that I was gonna add but then realised that it requires re-verification so i didn't bother. It does make sense to do this though otherwise people could get their profile verified on certain information and then change it later to deceive people. So it makes sense.

Adding a photo does not trigger revérification :) only changing dates, who promoted you or what belts you’ve received :)

I totally agree that should be necessary if someone has updated dates of their current rank. All black belt degrees should be grouped as a a 'current rank' for this purpose too to avoid the backdating issue.
But if someone has been verified as a purple belt, why would it make a difference if they adjusted their date they received their blue belt. They have already been verified as a purple belt so I don't see how it matters if they now change it so they've been a blue belt 10 years. Hopefully people aren't verifying simply because of the time spent at early belts.

What if you're a blue belt and had been training for one year, but backdates your white belt 8 years back before you start in a new gym. That's not trustworthy, regardless of your current rank.
Long story short; all verified promotion histories must be trusted to be correct. So any changes must be re-verified. Then someone will have to wait half a day or a day for people to reconfirm their already cast votes, it's not a big trade off compared to ensuring that everything is being checked :)

Fair enough. That makes sense.

Glad I managed to explain it. I can only imagine the system and logistics of it is kind of complicated to understand just in the beginning; it took me many months of thinking about it in my brain before I finally figured out how I imagined it would work :D
