So I started training in BJJ around 2011, trained for a year and a half, then went back to college and took time off. I then started back up on in 2016.
How do I make sure that my record reflects that? Should I work about it?

You could include a comment under your white belt.

Here is a question... Does this site support Kids Grey/Yellow/Orange/Green, then jumping back to white belt?

Why would the kid go back to white belt?

No, not really, that would be fundamentally incredibly complicated to calculate statistics and training time with :)

I know kid belt standards vary widely, but every fifteen year old green belt I know feels pound for pound like purple or better. At our gym, if a kid is past white when they turn sixteen, we either take them right to blue or if not quite ready, leave them at their highest earned kid color until ready for adult blue. On the unusual case where that kid wants to compete we would enter them in white division.

Setting aside Christian's technical complications, surely it's the norm for people to have discontinuities. If white to black (not to mention beyond) takes approximately 11 years, 11 months and 11 days, life is happening that whole time. Injuries, relationships change, babies arrive, jobs make you move, gyms close, etc.
edit: and my point is that instead of trying to make the system complicated enough to show discontinuities as exceptions, we should leave it as is because yeah, sometimes you are a blue belt for eleven years, and nobody thinks that's not because you are the world's slowest learner.

Ain't it the truth! I've developed my rule of thumb to never compete against 16-18 year old blue belts because it tends to mean they came up the kids belts and are blue purely due to a lack of time served. Purples in ability, or better...
