I read the book when I first got into BJJ. I found it interesting and peaked my interest in the art and traveling to meet other practitioners. When drama hit my home school we became a Globetrotter Affiliate. The interview only confirmed we made the right decision. I thought it was timely and well done. My first thought was that fiddling with that sticker made it look like I was constantly on my phone during the interview :D

It answered all the ridiculous questions the world has been asking. Getting a chance to hear his thoughts on the hierarchy of Jiu-Jitsu was really interesting and that interview reinforces why we are part of the the Globetrotter affiliation.

I basically agree with everything, but all these intrigues about belt verification by the IBJJF pale in comparison to their crapy rule set, which doesn’t allow heel hooks.

I still remember first encountering Christian back when he was mentioned by the (greatly missed) Fightworks Podcast, back in 2007 when he was that guy who runs the ShogunHQ blog. We were both up for Blog of the Year, neither of us won. 13 years later, not only has Christian won (in 2009), he then went on to eventually create the biggest BJJ affiliation in the world. Whereas I mostly just pigged out on Nutella. But hey, my blog on slideyfoot.com is still going, so that's something. :P
