Covid-19 Gym Shutdowns

Are you training? is your gym shutting down? Personally, I think it might be irresponsible to train at the gym right now, but I worry that small businesses won't survive without people paying their fees. Where I train, fees are collected monthly and it's understood that if you don't train, you don't pay. I will pay no matter if I train or not, but I can't see this being the situation for everyone. Your opinions?

Our gym will be closed for the next two weeks following the safety measures from the local sports federations, and the national measures. However in our school we pay yearly fees so, that shouldn't impact the school financially speaking.

My coach just announced that he won't close, but urges people who are in contact with hight-risk folks to stay off the mats for the next two weeks. I think that's not enough. I'm out with a cold right now anyway, but when I recover I'll probably take a break.
I don't think the business would have problems, we are mostly locked in yearly contracts anyway.

Our local gyms are shut down, as are schools. Has anybody posted a link to Stephan Kesting’s article yet?

If that is tl;dr for you, here’s the key quote: “ I know you love to train. I do too. But don’t be a selfish douchebag and undermine one of the only things that’s going to help save lives.”

It comes down to this:
1) it’s time for us all to take a little break
2) except, pay your monthly dues anyway or your coach won’t be able to pay the rent

The gym I train at won't be closing as of yet. However, my professor urged his students not to attend any upcoming competitions. I am starting to think I need to contribute my part, in social responsibility, by not training for a while. Attending class last night, I began to feel a little uneasy being in such a large group. Especially since our government seems to be taking a slower approach to this issue.

Our gym will close for this weekend as a precaution and see how the situation unfolds. I believe we are the first BJJ gym in the city to do so as it has not been made mandatory by local health organization and/or government.
Everything else seems to be closing though so I think other gyms will follow and we'll all most likely have to close for two weeks minimum.

I think the message should be "keep paying IF YOU CAN". A lot of self employed people are going to lose their income in this period, also those who don't run academies. Nobody is going to pay the electrician anyway if he can't work because of the virus.

Our gym is still up and running, but again, encourage anyone not feeling well to stay home.

Except this virus is contagious even before people start to feel symptoms. And some people don't even get symptoms, but can still spread it. That's why closing down is the only responsible thing to do.

'keep paying IF YOU CAN'.
Yes good point of course. If you have the kind of job where your paycheck keeps coming.

This.
I closed down our gym a couple of days before the heavy restrictions came into play and I would recommend everybody else to do the same regardless if it's enforced in your area or not.

Especially since the US is heavily undertesting, so it's impossible to know who has it already.

My coach didn't let me train this morning, cause last night I was working at football and was looking after the German fans.

I shut down after last night's classes. We feel it's our responsibility to protect our members and the community in which we are located. The primary reason I teach BJJ is the profound affect it has on individual lives. Those individuals in turn improve the quality of our surrounding communities. I feel that I would be doing our community a disservice by continuing to operate, knowing how this virus is spread and how severely it may affect our students parents, children, relatives that may be immunocompromised or elderly.

We've cancelled classes and are working to suspend memberships so students won't have to pay for time off the mats, but anyone who we don't suspend in time will get a free month when classes are back on.
At least four individuals from our gym currently have fevers and seem to just be influenza, but given how undertested our area is it's not really safe to say "definitely the flu, no issues keeping on after flu incubation period is over". None of them, myself included, seemed to feel off until fever struck.

Club is closing for March break and reopening on March 23rd. I don't own the club and only teach there. Told Jason I would stay away until we get a handle on things. Cancelled all my private lessons as well. I am not worried about myself as I am healthy as a horse but I don't want to bring it home either. I also have a full time job and can't afford to lose time because someone came to the academy infected without knowing it. Social separation is the best choice.

The gym attend is not closing yet. The owner has urged anyone who is or has been sick to stay away for now. He is also stressing good personal hygiene and safety protocols set out to stay healthy.

This is unfortunately not enough since you will be infectious long before the symptoms start, he should close down asap.

We closed down for 2 weeks. Then week by week depending on the current situation. We are in Germany, so things are pretty touch and go right now.

Yeah it's a pretty useless strategy. People can have zero symptoms and still spread it. Any one person spreading it could be the link that infects someone's family member who dies. Stop training.
