ID verified profiles with profile names found on IBJJF's list of black belts, will now automatically display a little IBJJF badge.
The name must match EXACTLY with the name on IBJJF's website (https://ibjjf.com/list-of[...]ack-belts/) and we do not offer manual verification of this in case of differences in name records :)

This is cool! Does that mean that there is an cooperation between IBJJF and Beltchecker?

Christian,
Can you add a middle initial / middle name field to the Beltchecker profile page?
Preferably one that does not trigger a reverification for filling in that field.
For instance, my IBJJF member name includes my middle initial...
But Beltcheckers did not have a field for middle name or middle initial.
In any case, I promise you this is a useful addition as William Murphy's are about as common as John Smith's.
A middle name field or middle initial field is helpful to separate out people with the same first and last names.

I just added the field, let me know if it works! :)

You can now also use the IBJJF field as a filter on the search page: https://beltchecker.com/s[...]eckIBJJF=1

Major statistical interesting point.
The search only pulls up 17 of the nearly 4000 and some change IBJJF certified black belts are registered on Beltcheckers.
Either people have to correct their profile names to match,
or the IBJJF certified blackbelts have been really slow to sign up for beltcheckers.
(or there is a bug as a third explanation).
But I am very surprised by this finding, although perhaps I should not be...
Perhaps those with the IBJJF cert do not feel motivated to sign up for another rank validation service?

A few things to consider:
- Beltchecker will only grant the IBJJF badge if the name on the profile is ID verified
- Any spelling differences or middle names missing will reject
But a quick calculation:
- 38 out of roughly 2000 black belts match the IBJJF database
- Taking into consideration name spelling/middlenames etc that kills the check, it's maybe 3-4% or so that are verified with IBJJF
- They have 4441 black belts in their database
- That's a good 100,000 black belts in the world, give or take

I know of a few IBJJF certified guys who are not showing for the same issue you had, in that their middle names are registered with the IBJJF and not here. Hopefully it won't take too long to catch up.

Very interesting stuff...

Just updated my calculation a bit, it was of course supposed to be number of IBJJF verified out of the black belts here, not the total users. Since they only certify black belts.

Yeah they just need to change their name here and it should be fixed automatically

Is this just for the black belts who have paid $500 for the certificate then?
My belt is registered with the IBJJF but I only pay the $30 annual fee I havent got a certificate off them

I wont be paying them $500 for a piece of paper.... I got my black belt off a Coral belt so that's enough for me haha

Yes, unfortunately they don't have a public registry of anyone but those who have paid for certification. So there is no data for us to look at.

How often does it sync with their DB to verify of membership and change the tag as verified?

It's an instant check when a change of name on profile is made

In my case the R. is my first name and David is my middle name. The ID I initially uploaded has my full first middle and last name. I just have to put the David in the middle name box. Do I need to upload another ID?

Yes you need to re-verify your ID if you change anything in your name. Upload a document and mods will get to it in no time :)

That was quick and painless. Well my first name is a pain but I've been stuck with it for 51 years so there is always that. :-P

The "Last Name" field on the profile appears to be re-formatting my name to "Proper Case". My last name is "LaBenne", but the profile saves it as "Labenne" even after changing it. The ibjjf database lists me as "Justin LaBenne" and does not appear to match. Maybe compare the belt-checker name against the ibjjf name without case-sensitivity? (assuming that's how you're making the comparison).

this doesn't seem to be working for me despite being on the IBJJF list of certified black belts. Name on both BeltChecker and IBJJF is spelled the same and match. does academy need to match as well?
Edit: It's been fixed now :)

Nice catch, yes that was indeed a bug. I have now fixed it and it should work without case sensitivity :)

Same with me. My name here and on the IBJJF site are the same. The only difference is I was able to add my nickname here. But it is not showing up here.
