Hi guys, how many kids classes do you teach each week, what days are your busiest classes, how do you separate the kids, by age or size?
Do you teach no gi classes to the kids if so how many times a week.
Who teaches the classes, what belt.
Look forward to hearing from you.

Hi John,

We do kids BJJ classes Monday and Wednesday, separated by age mostly 3-7, 8-14ish and a Saturday morning comp team class
the older kids either jump in with the adults (depending on size) or stay with the kids class

Kids classes are always gi, except for kids comp class we run Saturday mornings which could be gi or no gi depending on upcoming comps
He normally have a brown and a purple teaching kids classes, or a brown and a blue

Cheers :)

When I first started my club I divided by age and 'mental age', parents can talk to me about where I think their kids can fit in.
Originally we had the following:
Hatchlings/ 6-8
Kroclettes/ 9-12
Snappers/ 13-15
Krocs/ 16+
However due to low numbers we dropped the Snappers and now use this:
Hatchlings/ 6-10
Kroclettes/ 11-15
Krocs/ 16+
I do the Hatchlings once a week and the Kroclettes and Krocs twice a week but this is only due to my study timetable.
I would do the Hatchlings and Kroclettes 2-3 times a week, time permitting, and adults every weekday with weekends for privates.

We are in a very small community so we run a 1 hr kids class on a Tuesday and a Thursday with a bonus Sunday class when gradings are coming up. We allow ages from 5-14 in this class mixed so that the older children can learn how to support the younger kids and begin to get some idea of the caring philosophy of the club. When it comes to the session we will usually then partner them up and give them things they can work on at their age level and understanding.

We currently have no kids classes operating only adult classes I’m interested in setting something up now that I have more time.

I am thinking maybe a 10 -15yrs age group to start with and once that is established a 5 to 9yrs group.

Loosely based on a fundamental / Gracie combatives style format. Does anyone have any recommendations on structure or curriculum for kids classes ?

I run our Juniors program with very capable assistance from a couple of blue and purple belt adults and some of the more advanced Juniors (orange and green). I teach eight sessions per week myself. Three age groups 4-7, 8-11, 12-15 yrs. Larger kids in each group are encouraged, but not pushed, to train with the next age group, with the older kids (green belts) being encouraged to attend the adult classes. We run Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday afternoons, and Saturday mornings. Tuesdays and Thursdays are the "big" classes. All classes are in the gi.

We have the following classes:

1) Tiny Warriors (4 - 6) - we teach a more games based curriculum around positions and have fun names etc
2) Little Warriors (7 -11) - My main program - we have about 80 or so kid's in this program - 1 position a week - with 2 techniques (1 on M-T, other W-Thu)
3) Junior Warrior (12 - 16) - Teens - this is taught 2 techniques a day

These are taught Monday - Thursday with most kid's doing a class early in week, then later - and we offer the Little Warrior class via Zoom simulcast as well since last year. NoGi is on Friday's, on Saturday I taught a Self-Defense only class but after a year or so it fell out of the schedule as parents complained we never did anything in that class except Self-defense (no I'm sadly not kidding :D ) and we have comp classes for the Little Warriors and Junior Warriors as well.

We have probably at this point 120 kids, at max before pandemic we were at about 160 kids. In comparison, we have about 50 adults in our adults program.

We used to do a little kids class of 4-7 and, quite frankly, we hated it. It felt like day care which I have no desire to do. So now it's 6 and up for BJJ and Judo, 8 and up for Muay Thai. We do a Homeschool class that's mostly BJJ and it also 6 and up. We have Beginners, Advanced, and "All Levels" classes. We have 4 different kids classes per day 6 days/week.
