Ok.

So I got my second degree and updated my belt rank.

I lost all votes, which I understand is part of the game. However, I had a boatload of them, from people I actually know, and I took the time to reply to most of them. It was a nice little document to have.

Now, only a fraction seem to have been prompted to reconfirm their vote, and all my replies are gone.

Not a great incentive to update my shit.

And now I notice I have used a different notation of my teacher's nickname, which my OCD can't handle, but if I change it, the fucking thing gets erased again.

I am not entertained.

213 notifications generated in the database for people to reverify their vote for you, so they are absolutely all there :)

"...and all my replies are gone"

I don't think it'll make much sense to keep comments on re-verification votes, since they can very likely change the text of the new vote.

Sorry my mistake, it's 137 notifications generated. I had forgotten to exclude some back from January when you apparently also had changed some stuff.

Manually fixed that.

Consider yourself entertained.

Ok.

I understand people have lives and updating votes is quite low on anyone's priority list. It was just cool to see the interactions.

Interestingly enough, the majority of people on here don't seem to give a shit about revoting.

Just enough to be able to play along again.

There's a sociology research paper waiting to be written about this...

I think it's more likely that they voted for you six months ago and are just not active on the site any longer :)

The difference in activity in online BJJ communities before and during a pandemic is quite crazy.

I made sure I revoted for you as soon as I got the notification a few days ago (although I admittedly just updated it b/c I noticed a typo upon checking). I do the same for everyone whom I've voted for (although some people I do double check about to make sure everything is still valid). People's lack of revoting is probably a combination of laziness and what Christian said about people not being active. Some people also probably don't check their accounts that often.

Yea I appreciate it. I suspect a lot of people bailed on this site when they were actually able to train again :)

I think it's the other way around to be honest. Activity goes up in the areas where training restarts. But it's pretty dead where there's no training.

Let's not forget that the Tatu = Real thread and the Italian Commedia dell'arte suave soap opera kept all of us sane in times of quarantaine

Daði voted for me, but did not get a notification to re-vote...

There is no old vote in the database from Dadi to you, only the one cast today (see extract from database). It's impossible for old voting record to be deleted in the database, the code does not exist for this. It would still be there, just marked as inactive.

138 people have voted for you and there are 137 notifications generated in the system with reconfirmation request (probably one new vote after promotion). Do you need me to send you database extracts of this as well or can we consider the case closed? :D

Riddle me this. I am a savant when it comes to language and phrasing. I remember what people write and say, a lot better than mere mortals. This is a result of me working as a professional journalist since 2008 and having to interview people on the fly, in a corridor somewhere, armed with nothing but a small notebook & pen.

I am quite sure Daði DID vote for me the first time around, because I remember how he phrased his comment. Also, Jorgen Matsi swears he upvoted the first time, yet his contribution wasn't registered.

I don't know Jack from Jill when it comes to coding, but I do know my words, thank you very much.

I suspect it's Russian hackers. You were using Yandex, after all.

Okay.

Mi amigo Mike Hartmann updated his belt to first degree, TODAY.

I voted for him before, but did not get a notification to revote.

He's already at 3000 points.
Telling you mane, something is off with the system.
Bleep bleep syntax error.

Automatic black belt degree promotions based on time served does not trigger re-verification of votes :)

That's actually a strange choice.

No nothing? Get stripes indefinitely. Keep cred.

Stay involved with school & teacher, get stripes? Lose all your cred & sit around like a mong waiting to get your shit back.

This has been debated quite a bit earlier on in the forum.

1) Degree promotion by an instructor: We need to re-verify to ensure people enter correct information and don't just put Helio Gracie or something like that as promoter.

2) Degree promotion based on time: The time is being calculated from the black belt promotion date that is already verified by the votes. No need to vote to confirm that the system can count to x number of years. There is no other data to verify than the number of years so it's pretty straight forward.

A vote in case 2 would pretty much end up being a vote for wether or not you agree with the time based promotion rules as they are defined by the IBJJF. Which would make little sense to vote for imo :)

I doubt anyone believe you lost all your credibility in those few hours you had to wait for re-verification :D

His profile picture wasn't finally verified until 1-2 days ago. What you remember is probably that you commented on his wall 1 month ago. But no vote was possible back then :)
