Not sure who else out there trains, or is currently training (due to Covid) without a coach, but I thought it might be helpful to start a thread on here where we can give and get some feedback from each other on various techniques.

One of my handful of side projects on lockdown has been to become more proficient with the berimbolo; even if I rarely bust it out in competition, I feel like I really need a deeper understanding and a higher level of proficiency so that I can appropriately guide my students in this area.

Are there any berimbolo aficionados out there who could give me some pointers on my 'bolo? I feel like I have the basic stuff down, but I'm definitely missing some key details. Bonus if you're also old, "stocky" and inflexible :).

I CAN post videos on here... right? lol.

That sounds like a great idea! Yeah, I'd love some help with loads of stuff. I sadly can't help with berimbolos, that's way too fancy for me. BUT I can steal your idea and stick up videos of myself, if anybody wants to give me some pointers about Priit's grilled chicken? :D

This is the most recent vid of me doing grilled chicken against a bit of light resistance, though it's very light as my housemate doesn't care at all about BJJ. I need to give her more pointers about how best to drill this, like trying to get past my legs more rather than just moving in a circle. Though she still broke my guard at one point, sort of, as I fucked up on the invert (hence why I need grilled chicken help :P ) : https://www.facebook.com/[...]6338260545

good ol bolo... i kinda hate it, yet i do it quite often when a possibility presents itself

check out a class about it from a fellow globetrotters instructor who also happens to be a mendes blackbelt

only thing i would say is, watch out once you get kinda good at it, if you meet someone whos better at it hes gonna take your back while you try taking his ! keep your butt on the floor at all cost to prevent it happening to you

Excellent video. His detail with crossing the feet to teach how to move the person with the knee is gold.

Yes, I would describe myself as a "casual 'boloist" as well. lol. Basically, 2 of my 3 regular training partners are tiny women, so my standard, soul-crushing wrestling-style of BJJ isn't super appropriate with them and I'm trying to find a way to add some new, fun stuff into my game.

I think my issues all stem from about the 3:06 point in the video where he says, "do like this, not like this"... where he is talking about inverting with his head near his opponent's hip. The likelihood of me developing this level of athletic flexibility at this point in my journey of life is probably not going to happen.

However, the leg-crossing detail as far as a training tool goes, is something I've never explored before. I'll go ahead and try this tonight and see how it goes!
