For those who have gone on them - If you could only get to one Globetrotter Camp over the next year, which would it be and why?

Winter Camp, easily my fave, even though it is a bit short. I love that it's all inclusive, beautiful scenery, plus the fact that everybody is staying in the same building (and smaller numbers compared to some other camps) means it's the most socially appealing to me (especially as most of my close friends go too).

Failing that, Heidelcamp, as that's also got an all inclusive option, and it's currently the easiest and cheapest one to get to from the UK (especially as I don't mind super long FlixBus journeys). Hence why that's the next one I'm booked onto this year, same as the last few years.

I can't go to Winter Camp next year, so I'll probably have a look at either Maine (if I can get a ticket and the timings work out, which as it's June probably won't for me) or maybe Tallinn (as there's an all inclusive option on that now too).

I booked Heidelberg 2020 as that seemed like a good camp to get started with. At this stage I'm just looking to get to any camp once restrictions are lifted. From what I've read about people's experiences I don't think you can go wrong with any of the camps. Just pick what sounds good to you.

I think I’ve been to 6, in three different locations. All have been super fun.

That said, the Zen Camp is truly unique. The whole setting is something I don’t see easily experienced anywhere else. If you think it looks amazing from the promo videos/photos, it’s even better IRL.

Booked it again for this year, hopefully all goes well so that it’s safe to go.

Yeah, I've been to 8 full camps so far (and 2 partial ones, in Leuven and then Bournemouth), though I mostly go back to the same camps (until Christian cancels them ;) ). 3 in Leuven, which I loved, 3 in Heidelberg, 2 Winter Camp. Heidelcamp 2020 will be camp number 9 for me, then I'm hoping somewhere in the US for pizza camp (it's been far too long since I've been back). We'll see though.

There are people on here who have been to 30+ camps IIRC, like Katla, (and of course Christian has been to loads and loads), so they should be able to give a good overview.

I love them all, you can't make me pick a favorite and you know it ;)

I'm another vote for Zen Camp. The Italian castle and Caribbean island do look amazing though. But i think i'd be tempted to turn those into a relaxation holiday!

Thanks for the advice guys - now just need to convince the boss to let me go :-)
There are a few camps where there's plenty for your partner to do even if they have no interest in BJJ. That's another great thing about Winter Camp: the price also includes plenty of skiing/snowboarding instruction (though you have to bring/rent your own equipment). You also get access to the water park next door, plus there's a sauna in the hostel.

EDIT: Ha - took me a moment to realise you might actually mean boss at work, not your partner. I guess you could bring your boss too? :P

:-)

You were right the first time - Have to convince her to do the school run if it is during term time.

Work is desperate for people to take leave and not carry it over to next year, so that bit is easy.

Oh cool: that's good news, part one is sorted at least! Yeah, if you have kids, that's trickier. However, there is a family camp in Austria that is specifically designed for people with kids, so you could bring them with you. Though I don't have children, so I've got no idea about when term times are.

However, I'd recommend you take a look: https://www.bjjglobetrott[...]iacamp2020

The one for this year is very soon (19th to 23rd August), so I'm guessing that wouldn't work (although there are still some tickets left), but next year worth checking out. Same venue as Winter Camp, which as I mentioned is my favourite and relatively easy to get to from the UK. :)

I haven't been to one, the most sensible one for me would be Maine (I live in Maine) -- however the last three years I've been eyeballing camps but the ones I've wanted to do have always coincided with difficult times of the year with work stuff. Iceland would seem like another obvious choice as it is a short flight (relatively) from Boston and I'm sure there would be a lot of opportunities to explore Reykjavik when not training. Heidelberg looks amazing but I don't think it's exactly what my girlfriend has in mind in terms of a trip to Germany, hah... haha... hah.

For some reason Estonia also sticks out to me.... can't think of any reason why I would go to Estonia otherwise so it sounds like a cool adventure to say the least.
