COVID-19 testing should be mandatory prior to all large BJJ events

Just published this article: https://www.bjjglobetrott[...]bjj-events

Two participants of the Austria camp last week tested positive without symptoms (and stayed home!). Had we not asked them to test, things could have looked very bad by now.

"Remember to take your temperature at home before coming" is not a viable solution for safely hosting large BJJ events (looking at you, IBJJF).

I've done a test this morning, having arrived back last night. When i have the negative result then i'll post it with a mini review on the BJJ underground. I take it nobody actually developed symptoms or temperature during the camp.

Post it here too, I'd be interested in hearing more about tests available in the UK which are both quick and reliable. I had a test done through the govt a couple of months ago, never got any results (I just ended up isolating for 14 days anyway). So yeah, given I want to go to Heidelcamp in November, I'll need to find something better than that. ;)

Here in California, tests are readily available and i don't roll with anyone that doesn't test at least 2 or 3 times a month. I know it doesn't guarantee I'm rolling with Covid free partners, but it does better my odds. As my wife who worked in AIDS prevention in the 90's always says, "There is no such thing as safe sex. It's just safer sex and that is better than no sex."

We checked temperatures something like 1000 times during the camp and all were fine. No symptoms either.

A handful of people already did a test after the camp and all came back negative. I also have one scheduled tomorrow morning myself. Both so I am allowed to go home but also our of courtesy to my training partners at home.

Unless you go private (~£190) then there are 2 options, order a home test kit where the results take up to 6 days after you post it or go to a drive in centre where the results normally come within 1-2 days. However, the government is doing their best to screw even this up and so sometimes you need to be selective with the truth about why you want a test. There's no "give me a test because it's a good thing to do option" and despite over 15m tests done, they are still being stingy with the home kits. You also can't go to a test centre when you're in quarantine and they won't send you 2 home test kits for the same person so just be creative...

I believe the secret pass phrase when calling your doctor is “sore throat”
"Why do you want a test, sir?"
"Sore throat"

Probably higher percentage for getting what you want than "because i pay my fucking taxes"

I am as a safe with my jiu-jitsu training as I am in the bedroom and I have trained at over 10 jiu-jitsu places in the past month.

I'll leave it at that. Never felt better.

This is more than just a matter of your health. Even if we ignore the health dangers, there are also travel restrictions and quarantine measures to consider should someone become infected. To paraphrase Christian Graugurt on Facebook, I don't want to be the reason my training partners have to go into quarantine, aren't able to go home, miss their camp, additional training and work.

I am not currently training anywhere where people are worried about things they have little control over. So all good.

Also I am already missing all the camps because society has decided to live in fear...history is a funny thing. It has a habit of repeating itself.

The only thing you can't fight besides time is nature...You can't fight nature. It is like time itself. It's a losing battle you have zero chance of winning.

Well I guess that’s relative, I would say humans have won more than a few battles against nature through time :)

Impossible to meet anything resembling the 72h test criteria in Finland at the moment due to our abysmal testing capacity. Takes 2-3 days to get to a test, then 3-7 days to get the results in my area currently. Also costs about €200 to test voluntarily (without a doctor sending you in). :(

Hopefully the delays get better or an alternative solution can be found before the fall camps; testing in the camp destination country could be one if they have their shit better together, but in case of a positive result I'd much rather quarantine at home.

I guess the better way to describe it is you can never win the war against nature. You may win several battles but eventually you will lose the war.

Because if nature loses the war then we will cease to exist as a species most likely. That or we are in the Matrix.

Hmm. I'm incredibly bad at lying, so I'll have to look into private tests, or hope they have something better sorted in the UK by November.

Don't think of it as lying, think about it like you're talking to Boris Johnson on his level and in the way he understands

https://www.iflscience.co[...]f-covid19/ Interesting update. Looks like herd immunity for Covid 19, making mandatory testing even more justified than it already was. To be frank, I personally think this is going to become our new normal for camps, tournaments and travel in general.
For me as someone who has never cared about politics as its nothing but professional wrestling. A show to try to get you to feel some sort of emotion in a pretend good vs evil scenario to keep you entertained/distracted.

I personally think the only thing that is clear these days is that people are much more willing to be a blind follower than a leader or individual with their own unique ideas and thoughts.

People are lazy and they think others are selfish and immoral. When in reality it is their own moral based decision making process that thinks of every decision as a good or bad then right or wrong scenario that allows them to predetermine all of their decisions no longer having to use their brain to make decisions that is actually stubborn in of itself which makes themselves selfish.

Instead i prefer using logic based decisions thinking if something makes since or not. Then what the logical response should be through actual use of the brain and problem solving. The problem with this method for most people today is that your actually trying to be unbiased and balanced and will not end up blindly agreeing with what everyone else says and this requires effort and character because you become an individual immune to bullshit and your responses are less worried about what other people think but more concerned with the actual truth and reality of things...not what you think people want to hear because of some mental insecurity. Trying to find out what the actual truth of things are instead of making up your own truths.

When groups of people on either side blindly believe whatever they are told it is very dangerous and destabilizing compared to when people actually think for themselves.

Freedom not to wear a mask or not get tested or not to be forced to get a vaccine is not the real issue. Freedom to think at all for yourself and to stand on your own two feet with your ideas and opinions in general is what is really in danger. Creativity and being an individual is in danger. That is the longterm issue.
