Training while wearing masks.

For those of you who have started training again, are you doing it with masks? I've seen some photos and videos with people wearing masks and was wondering how common that is and if someone actually thinks that will work.

I think it's pointless. I don't think in training setting, same room for 60+ minutes mask will change anything.

We've been training, no masks. We started with a designated partner for about 1.5 months and then opened it up to small groups of 4 designated partners. We wear masks while off the mat, and everyone has their temperature checked when entering the building.
I was infected with Corona, but it was from contact with a coach at a Crossfit gym who tested positive. When I tested positive I isolated for 3 weeks until I was cleared to train again and fully recovered. None of my training partners were infected and we've only had one other case at the school (not related to me as I train at a different time than him). I personally believe the level of contagiousness varies greatly, I had no respiratory symptoms, cough etc and don't believe I was very contagious. My wife and daughter who were in close contact with me a week before I was tested did not test positive. After working with my doctors to recover, my advice to everyone is to have your vitamin D levels tested. Vitamin D deficiency seems to put people at higher risk. I take 5000 IU vitamin D daily as well as Zinc, as per recommendation from my Dr.
I think we all need to come to terms with this being the new normal and understand that its our own personal responsibility to make ourselves as healthy as possible, which Jiu Jitsu really helps with :).

Yeah, kind of tough to make the case for wearing a mask when your sweat is still dripping in their eyeballs and y'all are still huffing and puffing in each other's faces. Needless to say I have yet to try training in a mask; for all I know it could be a really awesome training aid, but I can't imagine that the mask is still functioning the way it is supposed to when you're at the grocery store.

I'm very conflicted. I have not trained since Feb, and really want to get back into it. At the same time, I don't want to be someone who is being negligent. I want to do my part to reduce the spread. Plus I moved to a new area and will have to establish at a new school.

What do you mean? If your new school has a mask policy, of course wear one if you go train. If they don't, wouldn't probably do no good being the only one wearing a mask.

Even if masks were helpful (which I don't buy in this context) , I don't get how they're supposed to stay properly on during any type of normal sparring. Very light drilling, perhaps, but whenever I spar immediately my hair comes undone, my pants drop, the tapes rip off my fingers, my belt comes untied and my face gets bruised.

Agreed. A few people have been wearing them and they do move and come off. And same for me, except the tape doesn't come off anymore because I'm using hockey stick tape. lol

I completely agree, and the only type of mask that would likely stay on during rolling would be one that is very bulky, like an airflow restriction mask that people use to strengthen their lungs.
