Seems like everyone is getting promoted, notifications are blowing up every day.
That's not as bad as the friend requests from folks fishing for votes. Lol

Well when you only have 20 points to offer you don’t get a lot of those.

Haha that's a good point. I actually don't really mind either the many promotions or the random friend requests. I just double check for evidence of a promotion before reconfirming my vote, and if I get a friend request from someone, just like everyone I vote for, I make sure they have videos or photos, are claimed by their instructor, or are vouched for by teammates so that I can feel confident in voting for them. I remember my eagerness in trying to get verified, so I get it.

I’m there guys! I’m trying to get this sorted and I’m looking for votes. We are not that established on Beltchecker in eastern Belgium. Anyone that can help I greatly appreciate. I can’t even figure out how to post pictures, except here: I’m the silver medalist in European Open here 2011.

I’m not actually bothered by the promotions, maybe slightly jealous though. But seriously, now I’ve learned my lesson on going more than a day without checking in.

It’s not that hard, took me a day to figure out the mechanics send message for some help As well, its good to have photos and documentation on the profile even though people may know you and probably vote either way, it’s good to have more facts uploaded makes it easier for people that don’t know you to vote.

The highest point voter I’ve received was 250 and that was pretty cool, but I’m to the point where I will never need another vote again. Despite that, it’s still nice when people take the time to look at your journey and decide that you are deserving of their vote.

Thanks. Likewise for your 20. I'm really enjoying Beltchecker.

Once verified, none of us really need anymore votes until we're promoted. But like you said, it's still nice to know people are looking at your profile and feel comfortable enough to give you their vote.

I think we should max out at the required points. Further votes should go unscored.

It is silly isn't it? The Max requirement should end it. I get that this is a social experiment but Christian should have all the data he needs by now.
I must admit, I do like when someone votes for me as well. I won't deny that it feels pretty cool.

We already talked about that David and I still don't agree. Let's say a black belt get's 1000 points and then voting closes. He will only need one downvote from a blue belt to lose his verification, no matter how many other people would have wanted to verified him (because their vote now doesn't count). It would be fair enough if he actually only had 1000 points worth of trust from the community and really was living life on the edge. But if he had potential 10,000 points worth of trust, a single downvote should not remove his verification status.

Easier solution is that you just stop paying attention to the numbers once a profile is verified :)

Haha this is why I made this system and not you :D Consider this scenario you suggest where votes don't count after verification:

- 10 black belts vote for black belt #1 = he maxes out at 1,000 points and is verified
- 100 black belts vote for black belt #2 = he maxes out at 1,000 points and is verified
- One blue belt downvotes both of them = they both drop to 995 points and lose verification, despite one of them having 10x as much community trust.

Therefore all vote points must count, since more community trust = more buffer against downvotes.

Anyway, I have a camp to plan, gotta run! :)

I see and understand what you are saying but what if that hypothetical "blue belt downvote" doesn't take points away but instead pushes it forward to a review by the mods/gods or the travelling black belts thing?
Obviously not happening but still interesting to think about either way.
Have fun at the camp

No, that would take verification powers away from the community and put it into the hand of a select group of authoritative black belts. And then we’re just building a new IBJJF :)

Anyway, leaving it with that! :)

I think beltchecker as a concept it’s a great way to have Bjj archive and see how trained who and etc. like a genealogy tree, this doesn’t exist elsewhere so from that aspect is pretty great plus the quality of the site.

But I suppose the main purpose is to check legitimacy regarding belt promotions etc. beltchecker Is the name.

Litle by litle people that know people register and in some cases many of their friends vote, in short time everybody would be voted from friends or students or teachers, if I wanted I could ask my students to register all and from day one with my rank I could verify almost all of them. In other words I believe there should be some failsafe. If you have a good profile and people that don’t know you vote obviously they are seeing something , friend or student will vote either way. Someone can pass as legit and could be involved in serious beltfuckery and never see that, you downvote and nothing happens if he has like 100 votes more that’s the points needed .

Anyways looks cool so far.

Actually, the solution to Dave's & Christian's argument would be to have vote points max out like connections do in LinkedIn, meaning only artificially. There they max out at 500, after which the system just show that you have "500+" connections on your profile. Of course, all your real connections are also there, just not shown as a total number. I believe they have also done it so that ppl won't go around trying to collect as many connections simply to get that number up.

I feel like I will be a purple belt for as long as I was a white belt, but I’m okay with that. I look good in purple.

Again, another great reason to just vote on people you know. As then you actually get excited about those promotion notifications. :D

Donatello rocks a purple eye mask, and everyone knows he's the best TMNT.

Purple is for sure the most fabulous belt, I kinda miss it. But then black goes with everything, plus it has that snazzy dash of red. ;)
