How many countries that can't or won't (reasonably) risk to travel to US?

It's still "only" people from EU, China, Iran and Brazil who can't enter the US. Of course, that makes up most of the world's practitioners in this sport, so it's still a stretch to call it "Worlds".

I will say this, I competed at Pans here in Orlando, and I've signed up for Worlds. So far my bracket has 17 (at last look) competitors, and my Pans bracket had 12. I know that a lot of people can't come compete, however, that place was PACKED with competitors (some guys who I could have sworn were not living in country). Most brackets are still running pretty deep, and while it sucks that there are countries who can't come represent (except apparently Brazil, because again, didn't realize that many top Brazilians lived in the States), if someone rolls through 20-40 people, I still consider that champion pretty legit, and won't downplay it because he didn't defeat someone from Asia or Europe, just my take.

No matter how many participants there are, it’s still a bit strange to call it “Worlds” when the world can’t come :)

I agree it's odd, however, I also think it's just the branding that they put on the event for more entries. Like the Euros, they allow Americans, South Americans, and Asians to compete in that, they don't hold it exclusively for European competitors only. Same with Pans and Nationals here, on any normal year, anyone could sign up for it. So while I agree that Worlds is weird because of the travel restrictions, at the end of the day, it's just a nomenclature to drive up registration cash (IMO)

I wish they would do a Round Robin style Worlds where you face at least 4 to 5 guys and make it worth all the travel and accommodations. And then you could have a single elimination bracket based upon the top 4 or 8 in points.
And also score more points for submission victories to prevent people from stalling for some 1-0 advantage and then celebrating the victory like they just won the lottery.

Well, at least one of those will be possible in the near future lol. My father received the COVID-19 vaccine a few weeks ago. He apparently signed up for a trial since everything in the U.S. is being fast-tracked.
