Inspired a bit by the topic on training gear, I was wondering what your pre-training routines are? I guess most people who have trained for a while will find out what works best for them. Myself:

PRE
- No food 2-3 hours before
- Shower (or at least wash my feet and armpits if I'm not too disgusting that day)
- Brush teeth
- Chewing gum
- Drink too much water (with electrolytes) so I have to pee half an hour into practice
- Pre-workout sometimes, but only ever for mid-day training or I can't sleep at night
- Leave home absolute last minute

POST
- Hang out and chat with people for way longer than I should (so I get to bed too late)
- Some bodyweight exercises when I don't have too many injuries
- Shower
- Cry over pulled out hair in said shower
- Keep sweating after shower, so it was useless
- Eat dinner way too late
- Wheat beer (5 minutes in freezer first) but depends on training season intensity

Pre:
1. Shower with hot water then finish with cold water for 2 mins
2. Pack gi bag (gi, belt, tape, braces etc)
3. Ice my back, neck and shoulders for 20 mins each (usually nap with a timer set while icing)
4. drink fluids sometimes a vitamin water for caffeine (especially after work) while planning my class.
5. Eat sparingly or have a banana, cream cheese and hemp heart shake.
6. Leave house an hour prior to class time. I am always very early.

Post:
1. Sit around with everyone talking or exchanging ideas. (I also get home way too late and have to be up by 4:30 am for work)
2. Get dressed after spraying myself down with tea tree oil and rubbing alcohol mix
3. Drive home and listen to an audio book while driving
4. Get home and throw my gi in the washer. If too late I will fill the laundry room sink with water, soap and vinegar and soak my gi till the next day.
5. Shower with hot water at first and then cold water for 2 mins while doing my breathing
6. Ice for 20 mins (all the same areas)
7. Go to bed (no meals after training, if I am hungry, I drink water)

Nothing exciting for sure but I like having a routine. (I'm over 50 yrs old so that's how it goes)

Pre:
1) Shower
1a) While in the shower, I go over my lesson plan if I'm teaching, or my training goals if I'm just a participant
2) Wrestle my knee pads (aka external cartilage) on to my knees
3) Cut finger/toe nails
4) Tape up arthritic fingers
5) Check self in mirror to make sure I look sufficiently bad-ass for my primarily white belt audience

Post:
1) Spend 20 minutes wrestling my knee pads off my knees (I find that butterfly hooking and/or using spider guard with my other foot sometimes reduces this time to 17 minutes)
2) Take finger tape off in a very meticulous, OCD kind of way, rolling it into a perfect sphere and then completely missing the trash can whilst proclaiming, "Kobe" (RIP).
3) Running off the mat or otherwise making weak excuses so I don't get caught in someone's tractor beam and have to politely listen to them talk at me for another 30 minutes
4) Shower, making sure to cuss loudly when the water hits all the spots where skin used to be.
5) Put on sweat pants, load my Pax and watch some Star Trek before passing out

Pretty much standard behavior for me...

These are hilarious and I can unfortunately totally relate.

PRE
- Create/rearrange a Spotify playlist (preferably during work hours), as I typically get to pick the music in the gym
- Fuccckk I'm gonna be late again
- Devour pre-workout a.k.a. cold black coffee leftovers from the morning
- If at home* throw some random gear in the bag
- gum/mints/beard oil
- Quickly wash feet at the gym + armpits if I need to (as typically I have taken a shower during the day, and you don't sweat that much in a country where it's constantly -5°C everywhere anyway), change
- If training fasted or 4+ h since last meal, mix a sports drink (electrolytes, magnesium and shit) for the training

*I mostly go to class straight from work, so gear is packed

DURING
- Realize I should've cut fingernails, proceed to cut fingernails
- Tape fingers

POST
- Hang out, talk trash
- Perhaps try to perform a single half-assed stretch, abandon it half-way
- Always shower at the gym
- If the training been especially good, just sit in the car at the parking lot (at the gym or at home), staring into emptiness, not quite grasping how to get out of this thing
- Throw the gear in the washing machine, open a beer
- Throw all my productive home chore plans to trash since I'm too tired to do any of that shit anymore

Pre- I poop before class ( and make sure I am nice and daisy fresh before class). I don't warm-up in any exercise endeavor. I go full cheetah! Full cheetah is by definition: from rest to action, zero to hero. I do participate in the warm-ups in class out of respect, but I participate like a cheetah, slow all the way across the mat until the last two feet and leap to the end.

Post- I eat a banana and drink a little water, this is better than what I used to do. I used to guzzle a couple of beers as soon as I got home, and then a couple of fingers from Kentucky or Tennessee. It was my reward. Shower etc.

I’m usually the one who closes the gym, so I clean the mats, make sure everything is locked up before leaving.

Once I’m home I throw dinner in the oven and hop into the shower. We get home super late so we try to have dinner already prepared as much as possible

Pre-training includes all personal hygiene habits, usually coffee, ride my bike to the gym and a good warmup before class start

Pos-training is just a protein shake and a ride back home for shower and dinner in the winter days... the summer days could include a quick beer stop on the way :D

PRE:
- Eat, ideally 2hrs before
- Shower
- Brush teeth
- Leave home with lots of time to spare, but then it's only an 8 minute cycle or so anyway

POST
- Desperately try to get my impostor syndrome under control. Fail
- Head home
- Shower
- If it's early enough in the day, eat brunch. If not, read/watch TV/social media, then go to bed
