Today, I've started renovating the FAQ (including preparing it for translation) and was thinking what other questions we could add to it.
What questions/misconceptions/confusions/misunderstandings do you usually hear from people about this site?

That Christian Graugart is a notorious Belt Seller and signs off on anyones IBJJF application for big $$$$$ and lures people to his island of genetically hybridized humans and animals. Got all of that from a guy named TIMMY@IBJJF
Just kidding.....Haven't really heard anything negative about it at all.
This is what everyone is saying on the interwebs about you for making this site.

Really the big ones I'd hit:
* Does BeltChecker promote people?
* Does this mean I don't need IBJJF certification?
* Is this a Globetrotters thing?
* Why does having a public record of my promotion history that can be verified or refuted help mitigate "le fuckery"?

I didn't understand that you wanted answers as well. Let me take a shot at answering my own questions (and trying to phrase them more presentably).
Does BeltChecker promote people?
No. BeltChecker allows individuals to document their promotions, including black belt degrees from time served, but does not promote anyone.
Does this mean I don't need IBJJF certification?
You need to be registered with IBJJF to compete at their tournaments or register promotions with them. Being verified on BeltChecker does not change that.
Is this just for BJJ Globetrotters?
No, BeltChecker is open to everyone regardless of affiliation. :)
Why is it beneficial to have a public record of my promotion history that can be verified or refuted?
Having your promotion history be public allows it to be checked by other members of the community. Having community members verify or refute the documented information based on their own criteria allows the community to determine the standard to which documentation will be held. This information being public helps ensure that it's accurate so a certain degree of trust can be established.

What about the Dr Moreau thing?
As real as me existing.
I've even seen leaked footage of him teaching wrestling to the monsters he's been creating on that island.

Mental Note: Avoid "The Island" at all costs. LOL

I didn't either, just thought about it when you posted the questions :D
Thanks a ton, really appreciate it. Already put some of them in the FAQ but will use some of yours too!

I appreciate the wording you've used. The new FAQ reads well so far.

I would focus on stressing that this is the equivalent of peer review in other endeavors.. People are judged by their peers as opposed to a group like the IBJJF that will only recognize a belt if the coach has become a member.. There are many high level people who don't give a crap about the IBJJF

Perhaps a question in the General FAQ in the lines of "Who verifies my BJJ rank on Beltchecker?"

How does BeltChecker verification differ from verification by an organization?
BeltChecker leaves verification to the community, so it's similar to a peer review process. An individual's rank can be verified even without membership on the part of themselves or their coach in any specific organization so long as there is supporting evidence that stands up to the scrutiny of review by the community.

Who verifies my BJJ rank on Beltchecker?
"Tatu Piispanen, a relatively unknown purple belt from the dark forest outside of Helsinki, Finland—who some will even say does not really exist—is solely in charge of publicly judging your credentials and skills as a Jiu Jitsu practitioner and human being."

I think that in BC's mission statement, it should be stated that outside of peer review, the main goal is to help build a global community that isn't based on static rules like the IBJJF.
Phil hit on it earlier, there are plenty of top guys and black belts (my instructor Jon Burke for example) who don't give a damn about the IBJJF, and in 25+ years of training, have never signed up for it.... So rather that some new black belt by IBJJF standards, or even worse, Professor Blue Belts with 2 years of training and a plethora of expert opinions based on their YouTube academy, doubting the validity of those kinds of practitioners, this community helps verify through definitive testimony and peer review. I know a few people touched on it, but from my personal experience on being in other forums like Sherdog and TMMAC, this place definitely offers more of a community vibe for the BJJ practitioners.

How to you verify rank ?
Belt checker is a peer review site where BJJ practitioners can post their profile along with certificates, references and documentation including pictures and videos to give a virtual jury of their peers the opportunity to vote on verification based on the evidence provided.
