A new tradition?

I'm starting a tradition for myself, which I think other people might be interested in adopting for themselves as well.
My gym has an unofficial tradition of 'shark tanking' someone on their birthday (roll with each person in the gym, 1-2 minutes each, no rest, start with white belts and move towards black). It's pretty laid back, and we only do it if people realize it's your birthday. Upper belts aren't trying to kill you, and you're already tired out by the time you get to them anyways.
The new part, which I wish I had started sooner, is to record my shark tank each year. Imagine being a blackbelt and having a record to look back on of your progression each year, and a reminder of old training partners who have fallen by the wayside. To see yourself as a horrible new whitebelt, then slowly build your game throughout the years. To be able to look back and remember "Oh, yea, I used to play a lot of closed guard as a whitebelt, then blue belt I really liked half guard, then I moved on to leglocks, ...". To remember that awesome brown belt who really helped you fix your passing game, but then moved to a new town a few months later.
It's like a personal BJJ time capsule, that you updated every year. You could show it to new whitebelts to show that you used to be horrible at BJJ as well, and that progress is possible.
I just recorded my birthday shark tank this year (4 years into BJJ, so I'm missing a bit of my history), but hopefully I'll remember to do this every year in the future. I definitely wish I had videos of my previous years.

When I turned 40, my community of grapplers shark tanked me for 40 minutes straight. Every time I escaped and managed to achieve a more dominant position, they tagged someone else in and started over. For 40 minutes. It was awful.

Hey brother, I think this would make an awesome YouTube video/documentary thing. I would love to watch it. I can't wait to see your black belt shark tank!

I'm far too lazy for shark tanks, but I do like to record rolls. I try to do it at least once a year, though naturally that's been difficult recently. ;)
It's cool that I can look back at the stuff I've recorded, always super helpful to see where I'm making mistakes. All under the same Instagram hashtag. Plus it reminds me how shit my jiu jitsu is, so that's nice. :P

I think this is an awesome idea, thanks for sharing!
