People Please stop voting for profiles with no verified proof of belt rank. If you are not self policing and voting for profiles with no pictures, no videos, no competition evidence, nothing!! You are not helping you are part on the problem. PLEASE PEOPLE VOTE WITH INTEGRITY!! otherwise FAKE profiles will start popping up and like a virus will infect a great BJJ community site. It up to us to police and maintain a measure of standards. Voting for a profile that have no verifiable evidence of rank is a problem.

What documents? Not even a photo to speak of.

I know right. It's truly getting ridiculous.

Mark is building a nice little list of contested votes. However, half of those you contested had votes from teammates, so you cannot discount those votes as they have intimate knowledge of the person.

This is an important point. If they are ID+face verified and their team mates or coach has vouched for them, then that is not an undocumented profile.

On a side note, don't forget you can comment on votes and the voter will be notified. I do that sometimes when I see a "well documented oss" vote on an empty profile :)

Matt just because teammates vote for someone doesn't equate to documentation. I know some coaches will verify up he/she is a student of mine without much though myself included. If that were the case then Christian should turn the site into a jiu-jitsu popularity community page. Pictures, video amd social media are more important to show that a jiu-jitsu practitioner is living the jiu-jitsu journey. I don't even look at who voted for someone for the most part, I want my evaluation to be non bias, and based on the facts that the user in their profile presents to me.. my belief I'm if it were a resume for a job would it on face value get me or them that job. l know some old time jiu-jitsu practioners don't have pictures from 20, to 30 years ago, but in most cases can be explained, there lineage, and there training partner are their documentation. I started training back in 2001, and I was still able to manage to locate one picture of my bluebelt days. When I verify/vote for someone here I try and check everything I possibly can before I give my vote. So yes I will dispute a profile even with a coach and teammates vote with no other supporting documents. My reasoning is stated above

That’s fair but I was just pointing out that some of the votes were from people that actually know them, so they weren’t just randomly voting for a person without any basis. I looked at all their votes because that’s what kind of free time of working with at the moment lol.

Well I deal with a lot of resumes in my line of work and when my employer ask for free 3 references I understand that those 3 references are bias. So as I stated above I don't pay to much attention to them, but with a resume I always look at the credentials what have they done, your profile represents your resume. And the research starts from there. So your profile on this site is the representation of your jiu-jitsu resume. So while looking at profiles I think would I hire this person. If I verify/vote on someone's profile that answers is yes. My yes vote does not come easy.

I normally view the profile and votes.

If the coach has confirmed I feel that it is a no brainer..

If teammates or known known people say the have first hand experience with the person I give that heavy consideration..

I also double check social media links

The automatic go to for me is promotion pictures first, then other votes, if teammates/students/coaches or others say they know them or rolled with them that is usually more than enough proof for me, failing that (if a new profile) competition podiums, training pictures. For some reason that is the order I always end up going in. I haven’t disputed anyone yet as I’m a polite wimp

Christian basically forced me to dispute people, then I found it a bit entertaining.

My criteria are as follows and in this order
1. Pictures of the profile users Jiu-jitsu journey. Pictures at each belt, and in photo gallery.
2. Video of profile users training or competing. I will also check on YouTube for the profile user.
3. Competition results if competed.
4. Check social media if available.
5. I don't hold others votes very high on the list. But I do look.
6. I check to see if Users coach has validated them as student.
7. I also look at time in grade at each belt.
8. I also look at the amount of training being done If training history available on belt checker.

If user doesn't have all of them it's not a killer but if you have none the profile will definitely be disputed.
