Recently, whenever I get a notification for recertification, I’ve made it a point to see how many profiles that person has voted for before reconfirming my vote. Surprisingly, I have seen many profiles that have no votes for others or only a very few. This makes me rethink my vote for them.

Interesting, I'm not sure I've ever checked that. But then I still only vote for people I know, so I don't care if they vote for other people or not (especially as it's possible they just don't know many people on here personally, if they have the same voting approach as me).

Should that be a criteria for verifying one's rank?

If you're asking me, then yes, I do think you should only vote for people you know. Especially as the site grows bigger. If you're not asking me, oops. :P

Actually no, I meant that votes given shouldn't be a criteria IMO.

Yep, agreed on that. I don't think it matters at all, but that's just my opinion. I could see how it might matter if people are expected to vote loads as part of some community building effort, but as I think you should only be voting for people you know, that's moot (unless you're super popular, I guess :P ).

I don’t see it as a criteria since you can’t vote until you’ve been verified in the first place, but upon the need for recertification, I do look to see how much they’ve contributed. It’s especially frustrating when a person has messaged me to look at their profile and then later find out they haven’t bothered to help anyone else.

But what if they don't know anybody else? Though yeah, if they are randomly messaging strangers begging for votes, I can see why you might approach it in that way. ;)

Me also. I don't care if they voted for me or not, but like you said, if they asked for a vote then they should at least contribute to the site.
