I will be moving to a different state and would like people to recommend a new gym that they have trained at or currently train, or know the professor. I have been lucky enough to train at the same home from the start and hate to leave. I have traveled and been more than welcome at most gyms that I have visited, but ones that have a similar lineage seem (in my experience) to treat me better than others. I am looking for someplace that I can have the same family experience. OK, now the Details.
Relocating to: Tarpon Springs area Florida - SOON will be resident by the summer.

I train at New Port Richey Jiu jitsu Academy. We recently relocated to Tarpon Springs. The owner Mike Geery and I have trained together for 18 years. Great school and a great group of training partners. Definitely look us up on Facebook and come in and see us!! Any questions please let me know

I recommend taking advantage of the free trial periods of all the area schools. Your experience may be different from that of others. First hand is the only real way to know if something is a fit for you.

Thank You Butch, I will be sure to check it out. When I was down this past November and December I went to a gym in St. Pete but I feel that the commute might be too much. I also want to make sure I find a good fit. Looking forward to meeting everyone once we make it down.

Thanks for the recommendation, when I was down from Thanksgiving to New Year I did train at one gym, but because of the Covid, I did not bounce around. I agree firsthand is always best but I still like to hear from current and former members. Ultimately, I have to make that choice and I always reserve the right to change my mind!

I train at New Port Richey Jiu jitsu Academy...
My wife's from New Port Richey, and when we're in town we train at NPR BJJ, as well as Ybor City BJJ (probably also too much of a commute for you, but well worth the trip for the occasional open mat). I've been friends with NPR BJJ's Mike Geery for years now, and always have a positive time at their gym.

Your profile says Ashville, maybe when I am that way visiting my parents in Rutherfordton I can swing in where you train! Thanks for the recommendations.

Please do! We're big fans of the Rutherfordtonese out here ;). Good luck on finding your bjj home. If be curious to find out where you land as I'm always looking for awesome schools to train at when I'm down that way.

I currently drive about 20 min now, so that is not really a problem! I will have to check it out, thanks for the recommendation!

Rutherfordtonese!!! LMAO. My parents found a nice quiet piece of land out there and built their retirement home. The first time I went to visit all I could think of is the movie Deliverance.

I am in the same boat I am moving to Lexington Va but there is zero BJJ within 45 minutes
My dad works in Lexington. I'm pretty sure VMI has a grappling club if I'm not mistaken. I've run into some of those guys at tournaments before.
