What do you believe is the main reason that people create profiles and don’t follow through with verification?

Seems like it’s the ID verification that kills their motivation. Are there any alternative methods that can be used that wouldn’t encumber site admins?

Even though my Id is verified, it could be sometime before people who are willing to vouch for me are on here and already know someone else who is verified to vouch for them. I dunno?

Agreed, but we’re only 2 weeks in. As time goes on and user base grows, it should be much easier. The fact that there are so many profiles created and not completed is what peaks my curiosity. Maybe a little peer pressure to urge them to just finish their profile.

Maybe just general laziness when they see that it actually takes some work to fill out their profile?

There is really no way around ID verification if we want to build a site with trustworthy profiles. So if some people are too lazy to get it done, then perhaps this is just not for them :)

I believe we are talking about completing one's profile here and not actual verification by votes

Exactly! I’ve been urging my training partners to complete their profiles. It’s starting to work. I’m interested in what made them start their profile, but not finish.

As someone who has been working with user interface design for a long time, honestly the biggest challenge is always to make people do ANYTHING. Read something, fill out something, upload something. It's a nightmare when dealing with humans lol :D

We'll see. If the site takes off, it will be an incentive for everyone to have a proper profile here to be part of it. We're all just in the early, early beginning, so let's build a serious site and it will attract serious people to join.

Agreed! Even when it’s in a person’s beat interest, it’s like pulling teeth to get them to complete the simplest of tasks.

I’m doing what I can on the peer pressure end to get my friends to both create and COMPLETE their profiles.

3 down, 200 to go!

We also live in a time of instant gratification. Being part of this projects takes a bit of work and commitment. Just like Jiu Jitsu :)

Not a new problem, just a more prevalent one.
Quilty, ping the verified ATOS black belts here to verify you.

They can see your instructor's instructor is claimed by ATOS,

And your instructor's instructor claims your instructor.

And you verified ATOS black belts on here, get off your butts and go verify your cuz Quilty.

I'm not ATOS, and it was easy enough for me as an outsider to verify that chain.

Lol. True! We should all see who else in our gyms/schools/academies has joined and be an ambassador for the cause. Invite and follow up. Pretty soon, 800 points or more will come reasonable quickly if all profiles are legit.

Quilty, ping the verified ATOS black belts here to verify you. in.
Interestingly enough there are only 17 registered profiles contianing the word ATOS, 6 of which have been completed and only 2 verified (and one of those is a white belt whose vote doesn't count).

I would say that if you know any of them, ask them to finish their profile. This will help them and all other ATOS students.

All right Quilty,

I'll go check out all of the unverified ATOS black belt profiles and see if I can bonafide them against the ATOS affiliate website or the IBJJF website.

Oh, the irony...

Bill Olsen,

I messaged Keith's instructor, Noel Smith.

If Professor Smith provides me a detail that I requested in chain of lineage promotion,

Then I will add my vote to Noel Smith, his black belts, and his black belts' students, too.

Excellent! Noel is who promoted Keith and is my instructor. Steve Austin just did a seminar there as well.

Quilty, I have reached out to the verified Atos folks I helped verify to check out your down under creds,

and told them how I did it.

There are not enough Atos verified black belts here yet,

so some of the Atos brown belts are going to have to participate in the verification process,

unless you can pull the Atos black belts in to help out and participate.

And, I just went through and researched, and cast votes where I was able,

to verify everyone that came up on Search with affiliation Atos.

You Atos folks should try and pull in some Atos black belts that are easy to verify to help out with the Atos folks....

Pictures with Andre tying on the belt, or the Mendes brothers tying on the belt, and/or IBJJF membership black belt cards or IBJJF black belt certificates help...

Thanks again for your help Mr Murphy.

I'm more than happy to start pulling my weight in the verification process as soon as I can.

Lmao. I’m working on it. Spreading these 5 points around where deserved.

I’m not ATOS, but just trying to help. Slowly getting Noel Smith’s (my home academy) Alliance folks onboard.

Can we reverse the order of operations. Not let people verify “Id” until they have uploaded pictures for verification?

I spend 20 minutes or so looking for people to vote for a few times a week and it’s verified frustrating going to each profile with no pictures no social media! I hate to down vote without proof that direction. But I’m starting to understand why people are doing that.

A downvote a day keeps the Tearion Scott away.
