Hi everyone,
It would be great to share your experience with Jiu-jitsu. Are you a full time practioner/ coach/ instructor etc. who earns his/her daily living through academies/ clasess etc. OR are you a part timer/ hobbyist doing jiu jitsu. If so, whats your profession and how do you maintain your schedule learning/teaching this wonderful art.

I myself am a government servant (at the Secretariat Administrative Department of our state government in India) having a 9 hours weekdays job. I have my own academy where I teach twice a day per week (morning and evening on each day), and other coaches run the show on the other days. I attend regular seminars and webinars during my free time and roll with the seniors every time I have a free time.

I’m a correctional officer at Oslo prison, where we can do training one our at work during the shift. My BJJ training are mostly before late shifts at lunch classes 11:00-12:00. But also after early shifts at 18:15-19:30.
Basically there’s no excuse to not train at our gym, as there’s a option to train all day, every day.

Tough job, but clearly in regards to training has its perks

I am a Bjj hobbyist and after getting my black belt I began to do a little bit of teaching. Before the pandemic I was making it to a couple of classes a week.

I am a physician in NYC working in a general medicine practice. My training was always based around my school/work schedule so it definitely took me longer to improve than other people training the same number of years. I definitely still have many areas to work on.

Hasn't there already been that thread?

Anyway, I am now a (locally) licenced Sport Psychologist but main profession is working as an I/O psychologist and personal coach in a software company called Pipedrive (It's a CRM, biggest company in that field is Salesforce).

I'm nowadays saying that running the club and coaching is a bigger hobby than actually doing BJJ myself... I'd like to shift the balance a bit :D

I am full time at my gym at this point. I was an IT professional for many years for both commercial and government. I still do some consulting when possible to supplement the income.

My wife and I own and run a gym and campground in the same location. We've named most of our camping structures after BJJ moves. I have to admit it's probably the most awesome job I could imagine for myself right now.

If you're ever in North Carolina, USA, you should definitely check us out!

I teach for free. After surviving cancer I realized we only have 3 things in life..

Family, our memories and the lives we have impacted in a positive fashion..

I own a a business that finances Government Contracts and also for the last year PPE supplies and am in a fortunate position that I don't really need the income. I ran a commercial school for a while years ago and always hated the business aspect so it is not pure altruism I enjoy it more this way

I'm a full time BJJ instructor, though that makes me sound less lazy than I am. I should spar waaaaay more. Though yeah, naturally that's a bit tricky at the moment. ;)

I did part time office work for a while as I built up my BJJ classes, took me about 4.5 years before I could go all in on BJJ.

I am a hobbyist who just enjoys competitive sports and BJJ just happens to be the perfect outlet for me!

For work I do two things. I am a tax compliance analyst for an oil company and on the side a self managed real estate investor.

I am a full time maths teacher (secondary school / high school) here in London, UK. COVID aside, I train jiujitsu 3 times a week and judo (when I can) on Saturdays. I also teach jiujitsu (class) once a week and 1-2-1 sessions 1-2ce a week. For years I ran a site called "The Part Time Grappler" where I interviewed people like Chris Moriarty and Hillary Williams about how they managed to balance work, training and school. (I even interviewed Graugart back in 2013 haha)

I am a teacher. I left sales management about 5 years ago to start teaching developmental special education at the elementary level. I teach severe autistic kids and it is amazing!

I train 4 times a week at my gym where I help coach as well. I also love the gypsy jitsu lifestyle and over the years of hosting Big Jitsu events (over 200 lb rollers only) I have made a lot of friends at many gyms so I try to go to at least 2 a month elsewhere during the school year. But during summer break, spring break, thanksgiving and Christmas I will hit 5 or 6 other gyms along with my 4 classes a week at mine. Life is too short to not jitsu.

I’m in a mid-life crises and quit my job to do an internship that probably won’t lead to a job in that field. Also, post grad student.
