Would be interesting to hear your thoughts on this.

I don't feel like there should be strict guidelines for this, but hoping that if we leave it up to the community, the average of everyone's criteria will be the standard.

If you've verified it, I would typically be inclined to verify it as well. =) You know more of the Globetrotters than I do. What would also help it if they had a pic of their Black Belt Certificate on display.

Jay has a good point. Christian is something like a God who knows everybody :-) Certificate and pics from ceremony are helpful. The best is if I know someone personally.

a picture with their coach and/or assistant coach
or
a picture with a verified person (said person needs to be a beltchecker member and have X amount of pts)
or
simply a picture of an ID card (just needs name and photo)
or, all 3 things combined. o_O

I think that the basic criteria would be to know directly the person in question or at least the person who promoted them (picture of the promotion would help).

From now on, I will only verfiy a rank if I remember meeting the person, or having rolled with them... Also, I would like to see photographs of promotions (getting belts tied, etc).

I did receive a black belt certificate but I would prefer to verify based on meeting in person, or knowing their coach and reviewing their training history and seeing pics.

I feel like pictures from the graduation would be the most valid for me. I’ve known a few guys that left our previous gym, quit for a while then they come back and they’re a bluebelt. No pictures at all of the graduation while they usually are very active on social media.

If i rolled with them and see that other blackbelts i know personally approved im usually also approving

the less i know of them the more other blackbelts i know need to have approved to make me do the same

if i dont know somebody at all but i see that about the whole travelling blackbelt council approved i probably will do too

if im not sure i might just ask a few people what the know/think

Most of the people I am verifying I have met and trained with. The specifics of their other belts aside, or the dates of promotion, I go by what if I would agree with their promotion.

Otherwise, I feel like I am just validating what someone else said about the, which says more what I think about their coach and less on what I think about them or their rank. If thats what we wanted, then why not just have coaches be able to validate rank on their own?

now i just follow the flow to get this up and running. But i will try to vote only for people i promoted, and also people who ask me whom i rolled with extensively. (e.g. not one 5 minute roll.)

For me I will only verify someone i have hands on experience with or was promoted/verified by someone I know to be trustworthy.

I have also given a few easy votes here in the beginning for people whose career I haven’t followed much but to get the ball rolling. For the future though, I aim for only voting for people who I’ve promoted myself, know their instructor well or have trained with extensively. Having met someone at for instance a camp and rolled a bit should not be enough imo.

I will also downvote promotion histories that are missing some information, like a belt or name of promoter. A little incentive for people to fill out everything fully

I've read some comments which are written with votes and it looks more seriously. Maybe everyone who gives a vote must write a comment with reason.

I have been going back to withdraw all my blank endorsements, and re-validating them WITH a few comments / testimonals... Until the edit button arises.

If I directly know them or the instructor who promoted them (verified photo of them being promoted). I’m just loosely spitballing here I think.

Question for moderetor: Do you guys have some sort of an secret agents here with fake profiles who are testing newbies by offering verifications for them if they do the same? Or is here already legit frauds sneaking around and fishing?

Rauno, I’m not sure exactly what you mean with “legit frauds sneaking around and fishing”? :)

Any frauds or attempts at cheating that get only slightly caught and exposed to the public, will probably be immediately downvoted into oblivion and thereby lose their certification and ability to vote. All their votes will be instantly cancelled and whatever “damage” they might have done will be reversed right away, trickling all the way down through to all profiles affected.

The power of the community to strike down on cheaters or frauds is very strong in this system :)

If you see anyone do something that you don’t think is good behavior, just give them a negative vote and leave a public comment on their profile. Their only way out of the judgment of the community is to correct behavior or close their profile ;)

I think a black belt that can provide a IBJJF certification is good enough, those black belts with that have to jump through a lot of hoops just to receive that and they are then listed as a certified BB on the IBJJF's website.

I'm only using that as an example because I have done that and know the steps. I am not talking about someone posting their word doc. cert...lol

What are your thoughts on the IBJJF certified BB?

IBJJF verification is only one “vote” from one instructor anyway. He could theoretically be corrupt, have low standards or whatever. So for me, it wouldn’t be enough to verify someone I don’t know personally.

Yes, in IBJJF you can (quite) easily get a well-meaning higher blackbelt who wants to get an association foothold etc and then go just through the bureaucracy.

It appears that a lot of people on here know each other from Globetrotters camps, which is really great. However, it does seem like it's going to be difficult for others to break in on this site. Even if I invited everyone I know from my own local jiu-jitsu community in Southwest Florida (which I am trying to do), they're all going to be in the same unverified boat and none of us are going to be able to vote for each other.
