My friends and I started playing together online during the pandemic and it's been a lot of fun. I like creating all of my different player characters and role playing on adventures. I just started being a dungeon master for our recent adventure as well.

Yep! I started a DnD group at the BJJ Globetrotters Camps back in 2017, where we regularly run DnD sessions. That's now grown to a group of about 80 people playing online, multiple times a week, outside of camp. :D

I've used Discord in the past, but the audio can be a bit buggy. So my groups have switched to Zoom for audio. We go with Roll20 for maps etc. But yeah, I still like Discord, especially as it has that inbuilt dice roller (even easier now that DnD Beyond has a fancy version too).

Haven’t played in years.
The only fantasy game I currently play in Magic the gathering arena (online) and paper.
Also love table top war games like Axis and Allies Global.

I must try MTG some time. Matt Kirtley was recommending it to me over a decade ago, IIRC, I've still never tried it. I guess I just never got into the whole cards thing, I much prefer miniatures (especially playing DnD with minis).

Yes, the online version is pretty fun though. Plus can play quickly and at your own pace don’t need to have anybody else around. As far as miniature games goes, I’ve also played Warhammer. That’s a fun but expensive game.

Ooo, online version? I should try that. Is there an official mobile app for MTG?
And yeah, I've always loved everything about Warhammer, except the actual game. I've been slowly working my way through all the Horus Heresy books, since last April. Up to book 31 out of 59 so far. :D

Can’t believe I found a post about DnD in a BJJ Forum! Lol! Love it!
Been playing since 1993. Never stopped. Just breaks here and there. Currently I’m on a break since I decided to go back to school for a little.
I’ve been a DM for 90% of my playing years.
I am itching to start about game. I’ve dm’ed plenty online using FG and Discord.

I have been playing D&D and other rpgs since the early 80's when it was considered "Satans Game". lol I would have never guessed it would become so mainstream and even considered cool by the masses like it is today.

Elder Scrolls Online atm on PS5.
It's the only casual game like it where you can have a life and still enjoy it.
And every character/quest in the game is voiced. Every word.

Love dnd but its hard to find a group that fits my odd schedule. I tried to get my bjj peeps to play but didn’t have any luck.

Can anyone recommend any online places to start playing D&D? I tour as a sound engineer, so trying to organise a game or get people in on it is very difficult! Would love to get a few games online under my belt. Then I can maybe start a touring group!
Been touring BJJ as well as a hobby for 6 weeks now, currently in Cardiff!

I've run D&D games since the mid 1970s when it was still Chainmail and there were 4 pamphlets with the D&D ruleset. I've had dozens of campaigns, and one of my players ended up working for TSR. Quite of few of my ideas and player characters were incorporated into the card game and some of the modules. I finally quit running about 5 years ago. I never really liked the rules after 2nd edition though.

Aw, heck yeah. I love tabletop gaming, hobby board games, card games, etc etc etc. Been playing hobby games since the late 80s/early 90s. D&D, Shadowrun, the World of Darkness games, Warhammer 40k, etc etc etc. These days it's lot of board games like Pandemic. In my day job I am a child & family therapist and I use a lot of gaming in my work with kids and teens.

I'm tabletop wargamer. Rank and flank fantasy primarily, so kings of war is my game. There are weirdly parallels with bjj, patience, waiting for an over commitment, having redundancy and contingency, keep flanks protected and tight. Same game.

Roll20 is what I used, I've also played and run DnD games purely over Discord too. There is a handy automated dice function on both of them.

Dungeons and dragons, heavy metal and jiu jitsu go hand in hand because we are basically nerds lol. We are switching online play to fantasy grounds, highly recommend it.

Not the same thing but Crusader Kings 3 is actually pretty good.

Yep! There is a STRONG cross-over between 'trains BJJ' and 'is a massive geek'. One of the many things I like about BJJ. :D
I haven't tried Fantasy Grounds yet, I've only used Roll20 and Discord. Roll20 is pretty good, but it can be buggy, so it would be interesting to give other options a shot. Though I haven't played DnD much since the pandemic calmed down, it would be fun to do some more in person games again.
I'm also keen to get back to Warhammer Fantasy Role Play: that was my first role playing system back when I was a kid, but I haven't managed to play it again since. One of these days, I'm trying to convince some of my students to run a game for me. ;)

i play D&D with my instructor, Alberto Da Silva (above) we use Fantasy Grounds and Discord. I love fantasy grounds. works great, and it seems like you can just do so much more there vs roll 20
