I’m not well versed the history of leg locks. I’m curious as to what the community thinks about Mikey’s take? From a very brief read it seems this is something that was found in CACC and/or sambo? Are there any novel tweaks that indeed makes this a new type of leg lock?

Good position once you have the opponent's hip locked and grounded. We used to call this finish the reverse toe hold. Fcks up the foot, ankle and knee if the angle is right.

My Jiujitsu coach has shown it to me. depending on the opponent reaction after you established the grip ( doing the "boot" will break the knee first, "ballerina foot" will break the ankle first). the side of the head is placed on the foot to put pressure downwards and hip pressurring the knee.

For me, so long as the term will be widely accepted its ok even if they are not the original term like Kimura, Americana, Omoplata, De La Riva.

It's nothing new.

Edits:
Just to address since Mikey claims the switched grip is everything - he's wrong. Bernardo even taps while Mikey is trying to claim it's ineffective. You grip where you need to in order to make the heel oppose the movement you can get with your head. While he personally may be able to make the switched grip work better, the more traditional grip is still definitely able to break either the foot or knee.

Also to address his claim about the foot lock - even the foot bar variation he's showing is nothing new. https://youtu.be/NpzSaU32wqo?t=238
While Vlad shows that from a different position, Sambo tends to focus on mechanics and positional control such that the same submission is the same submission regardless of what position you're doing it from. There's not some specific name for it from that position that I know of, but it's just either what would be called a rotational knee bar or a foot bar depending on how he's finishing for each thing he's shown.

Fascinating thank you. I suppose there’s only so many ways to break things and since human anatomy is relative the same, these things have likely been done in the past, but now with some marketing and production value, people can brand this stuff

Other than the x-legs thing that Mikey shows in the video the breaking mechanics are very similar to some kneebar material I was recently reviewing from the noted leg lockers Tom Halpin and Junny Ocasio. There is nothing new under the sun. Probably all marketing (and good on him for it) -- hard to cash in in this sport.
