People,

There is NO reason, for any instructional video, on any grappling topic, to be longer than 45 min (for the entire coverage of the material). None.

The medium is video. Editing, voiceovers, zoom lenses, and pause, loop & replay *exist*

Instructors, for the love of all that is Holy...

Make a f-ing script and lesson plan of what you're going to say & do, and cut half of it out. And stick to that. No one wants to hear your stupid waffling and filler bullshit.

Show the actual move once slowly, once full speed. Then move on.

Again, the medium is video. This is not a seminar where people pay to hear your lame jokes and bro tales.

Change my mind.

Ps. And don't even get me started on "Okay, guys..."

Caio Terra's modern jiu-jitsu is probably the best DVD I have when it comes to production value and quality.

Daniel you're going to become an amazing, angry old man, sitting on the couch in your gi with a million degrees black belt and VR headset, shouting at the avatars in the BJJ instructional videos with a clenched fist :D :D :D

Danaher in the Back Attacks Instructional: Spends 10 minutes explaining how a knife works so his metaphor makes sense.

Me: "I KNOW WHAT A KNIFE IS!!!! THE WHOLE POINT TO A METAPHOR IS TO SAVE TIME IN THE EXPLANATION!!!!!"

I generally agree. I think for the higher belts (maybe not) it can be unbearable how slow the material is, but I think that's why all the white belts are drooling. I can imagine that as someone creating content you want to make sure that the user gets the value, but if you're going to add in filler make it easily traversable to get to what you want. I've had this conversation with my buddies on several occasions. With that said, I really liked Jimmy Pedros gripping DVD....quick and to the point.

What makes you think I'm not one already?

For me Koga's A New Wind is an - early - gold standard for this sort of thing.

One idea. Thoroughly, but quickly explained - in historical context. Demo'd and applied in various situations, with competiton footage showing it full power. Also, with scripted voiceover highlighting the minutiae.

The scripted voiceover is also huge. Cuts away all the mumbling and incoherent rambling
