Hi guys,

I was just looking at the ADCC 2022 fighters list and i saw that Gordon Ryan will face Andre Galvao in the Superfight, but that before that Ryan gonna be part of the -99kg division and maybe doing the absolute as well.... i don't remember, since the ADCC creation in 98, someone who did that.... fighting in the Superfight normaly put you out of the Tournament...
So it makes me think that he might be injured in the tournament and will not be able do the superfight, that's stupid.
Also make me think that it is another disrespectful attitude against Galvao because it mind that he didn't have to be at 100% to beat him....
What's your opinion about it ?
Do you think that the fact you're the number on give's you the right to do everything you want ?

He's only doing the division, not the absolute. He actually can't as whoever wins the absolute has to go to the super fight the next tournament. If he won't he super fight and the absolute this year, that means he's have to fight himself next year. ;)

As for the disrespect, honestly don't care. If he thinks he can do it, I say go ahead. Nothing stopping Galvao from doing the same. Personally, I wish they would allow more stuff like this. I'm registered for the German Open this year and I'm trying to get them to let me fight ange group younger, I'm 46, because I'd like there to be more opponents. Don't feel like driving to Berlin for one fight.

The Superfight has not been the highlight of the event in years... I'm glad he's allowed to do an actual bracket as well.

Gordon gets more sponsors and eyes on him if he is doing his division and the superfight. Nothing Gordon likes more than money and fame.

I think that's a bit silly tbh.
Multi-matches in a day, division and absolute brackets, etc has been a feature of jiu jitsu since forever. It's never been an issue.
There will be plenty of disrespect from Gordon towards Galvao - but competing in the division isn't an example.

"Do you think that the fact you're the number on give's you the right to do everything you want ?"

Where others refused permission to do the division as well as superfight? If not then this doesn't apply.

Obviously the money is a factor.
But I also think he is chasing records too. The negative aspect of the superfight is that it prevents people from winning more divisional medals.
Gordon is not only chasing Galvao, but he is also chasing Marcelo.

If he wins the division this year, he is joint second with Cobrinha and Royler.

No doubt the guy is so humble.... that's why Marcelo Garcia for exemple will always be better than him, never trash talk, smiling, humble, the guy the most friendly but who change on the mat, but even there he stay correct all the time and never did something wrong or bad attitude.

i'm with you 100% about the guy attitude.... he often behave like a total jerk ...

but in adcc case... i think it's cool to let him compete in the division... (i think he will win both...and sadly, i think he don't need to go 100% to beat galvao..even if it make my stomach turn to admit it)

Everything I've ever seen with Gordon he has been cool and he is an exceptional teacher. He gets everyone stirred up on social media. Ive never seen him slap around his opponent and get disqualified.

Yeh... at least he is not a hypocrite. He owns his "jackassery". And so humble... almost as humble as DeBlass.

That is of course a valid factor, but i really think his plan is to write his name in the history books as the greatest of all time.

This is such a young sport (The ADCC is only 20 years old) that it is relatively easy to be the best of all time. He very well might be the best of all time if he pulls it off. However, he will look like an ass if he loses in any of his matches so the pressure on him is immense.

I've heard nothing terrible about him other than he is a bit of a selfish ahole from those that are inside his camp. I think we all get to be a bit of a prick or even hard to get along with without people denigrating our accomplishments. He gets a pass from me.

Gordon is good and he's a fierce competitor - if he didn't think he could win it all he wouldn't be trying to for both. That superfight is going to be either really boring and exciting as heck. Galvao is a great competitor who will come in with a gameplan to win. Gordan, from all accounts that I've seen, will be looking to finish.

Gordon is an interesting one, as someone else has mentioned, in person he's really nice and is pretty thorough with his teaching and answers all questions - does not hide or avoid any thing. He was late coming in for a seminar and he stayed until the last question was asked and picture was taken. He went over the 2hr mark. Then you see him on social media and he's stirring the pot. He's definitely looking to build his hype, I can't hate him for his hustle.

He's just challenging himself and making it difficult for anyone to touch him. What he's doing is solidifying his name in the Grappling history books by doing things no one else has done. What he's doing in the ADCC is no different. He's doing something that's never been done before. How people take his actions is how they will take his actions. He doesn't care what you or I think or feel. I personally feel that's awesome he's doing that. He's got the balls to do something no on else has done while having a match with one of the best competitors on earth! It's going to be an interesting one event for sure. I can't wait to watch it live. This is my first live ADCC Event.

The very first time is always special......take your time, don't preasure yourself to much, it will be fine..... i had the chance to be in Barcelona in 2009, Marcelinho was still in there, that was just amazing !
About Gordon Ryan, for sure he change the game, we will see if he can do it, that's a good challenge.

You're right Marcelo is The man, i feel Lucky to having seeing him fight. You gonna be on even there, the special thing is that, everyone is amazing in ADCC, even the guy who gonna loose the first match is a killer in "normal" tournament. Pretty high intensity

I went to 2005 and 2019. The hardest part is watching 6 of the best grapplers in the world on the mat at the same time. Who do you watch? If you watch one you miss two. If you try to watch three you really miss all three. It was incredible last time . Production quality and timeliness was amazing. I'm pretty sure this year's is sold out (thank you Gordon Ryan) or I'd be going.

Have fun

That's what I'm worried about. I might have some neck issues whipping around my head left and right trying to catch the matches.
