I was thinking about a feature to see how many times it truly takes a person to be tapped out until they reached black belt? I’ve heard, “I’ve been tapped out 10,000 times before I had my black belt,” & it sparked that idea. I just wanted to see the real #’s (also love seeing the training hours dedicated to that belt). This will be a feature mostly beneficial to the newbies.

It will be interesting as this site matures and people like myself who log everything to do with jiu jitsu on here since they started. To see what the numbers are per belt like hours, sparring rounds etc. If i reach black belt that is. I just enjoy making friends and logging training to see improvement.

I doubt seeing the number of times someone was submitted will help them in anyway when it comes to advancement. I think it would serve as more of a barrier, no one should keep track the number of times they were submitted. Each and every rolling experience is another learning experience, why not keep track of the number of submissions a person has landed? Neither will bring you any closer to the level of proficiency one thinks they have. I think both will have their level of bias applied to them, one could easily fake the amount of times they were submitted or submissions they had. It is great to keep the end goal im mind, but one should also enjoy the journey along the way. Don't let the waters get muddied by the times you were submitted, in the end who cares how many times you were submitted?

I think sometimes people become a bit consumed with winning and losing.

When I am rolling the majority of the time I don't even think about finishing the spar with a submission or do I care if I tap to a lower belt from allowing myself to be in a bad position.

My goal is almost always the control. Removing the space for the finish. Transitioning to other positions or chaining other submission setups still thinking about the control of it all. The control, space removal, strategy and deception Is what that makes everything work. Getting the tap on someone is really a useless act as you will know you have it before someone taps. Like yes I will make people tap to start over or end the spar etc. but that's never the goal except in competition.

Allowing yourself to be worse in order to get better is key. When your good at a submission you will 100% know that you have the tap before they even tap.

Even If I can easily put myself in a dominant position against someone who is going say 80 to 90% against me and I am going 40% and all I would have to do is go 50 to 60% to achieve the dominant position doesn't mean that's what I should do or will do. My own personal goals are normally to be able to do everything as efficient as possible. In general if someone is going 80% I want to stay at 40%. I don't care if I can control and beat someone if I am going 100%. What really matters is how good am I when I am going 40 to 50%.

A lot of white and blue belts really focus on how good they are when they are sparring at 80 to 100% effort. What one really should focus on is how good are you when your going half speed against someone who is going more than half speed to 100%. That is what is going to make you better regardless of who ends up tapping.

I actually like the idea that every time you tap you are closer to black belt. Biggest problem is the inconvenience of keeping track.
