It's been lower for the past few months I think. Everybody just got their profile up and running, got verified (maybe) and then dipped. Back to posting inspirational memes on ig...

It's definitely dropped. I'm guilty of not checking it very often or posting new things to discuss. I feel like engagement is directly related to the number of scandals going on about who's what belt or something big in BJJ happening to discuss.

I've only just started lurking, there's generally only a handful of new posts each day to read through. I'm not keen on bumping months old threads either.

I've been lurking a lot lately. I gotta start responding. There are just some posts that i'm just like, i don't want to get into this drawn out debate or conversation. Let's all just BS about Jiu-Jitsu!

You should. Ppl get notifications and generally answer (if it's like a discussion topic).

This forum is my favorite part of Beltchecker. Feels like adult conversation rather than whatever’s happening on Reddit. It would be nice if it was more active; that said, I’m totally guilty of lurking without posting, so I can’t really complain.

I am definitely less active.

I visited Europe for the first time in three years around April, and I've been meaning to write about the two nice gyms I visited in Belgium, fellow beltcheckers:

Benoit Zenthner, Sequana Luta Libre (North of Brussels)
Wim Deputter's Brasa, Leuven

and then laziness and other things took over.

Both were super welcoming and had great stuff to teach.

I remember a great variation on a soft omoplata control from Benoit, where you casually monitor their leg to switch to leg entanglements/kneebar if they roll, works great even if they do the inside roll a la Roger Gracie.

I especially like Wim's approach, with a mix of MMA awareness and always encouraging his students to develop that great sense of feel/stickiness/awareness of how the other's limbs are moving. I meant to go back and get a private lesson with Wim, but I caught the flu from my nieces and didn't want to go in with a runny nose spreading my germs ^^ There was a very nice young purple belt there... (Shai? hi there if you read this, hope you make it to Tokyo someday ^^)

thanks @Benoit
thanks @wimdeputterbjj

I'll be back someday!

otherwise to the topic of low activity, I guess see this forum as I would old friendships; even if you're out of touch for a while, when you next meet up all the positive vibes are still there.

Ossssss ^^

My thought is people are having more time available to train/do other stuff with covid restrictions being something of a thing of the past in many places at this point.

I’ve still been logging my training but haven’t been on the forums very much for the past month. We’ve been short handed at work and the gym I train at recently changed owners along with the class schedules

Yep, exactly. I can understand not wanting to bump old threads on a super active forum, but it's a sensible option here, given this forum.is relatively quiet. Especially as there are plenty of topics in BJJ that are worth revisiting repeatedly.

I am guilty of lurking more than posting. I often do this on my IG, as well. I rarely post pictures and mainly communicate with friends/family. I have enjoyed using this site to log my hours on the mat. I wish I had done this in excel when I started in 2009 at 10th planet. The nerd side of me seeing the stats and pie charts is gorgeous. I remember, as a single man, being at the gym everyday for 2 hours when I first started from 2009 to 2012 before branching into the gi full time. I wish I could backlog all that mat time. Haha.

I have been trying to get people to sign up on this site but it is like pulling teeth with them. When I was at a seminar recently I made several comments to everyone there about this site and encouraging them to get on.

I am doing the same. I mainly enjoy the statistics side of life for this. Wish I logged all my No Gi hours back in 2009-2012.

I'm guilty of getting side-tracked for quite a while. Work for me has been increasingly busy due to a promotion and position change. Been coaching a lot in BJJ as well. But I've been getting in here more the last week or so. It does appear some momentum was lost around here lately. Hopefully that picks back up.

How does that compare to verified?
Since verified profiles are constantly hovering around 96-97%, then we can assume that new verified profiles graph would look basically exactly the same
