I have run a class for our smallest kids for several years, ages 4-5. We typically have 8-10 kids with two instructors. Would love to hear suggestions, lessons learned etc. from other folks with experience.

Make it fun. I have a 4 year old in training right now, and he does better in classes where they are doing drills that are engaging and fun. Sometimes you can't do that, but when you can, you should.

Lots of bjj based games.
Gotta make sure your energy is high as an instructor for sure to keep them engaged.
Never tell the kids "no, you're doing it wrong" just correct the technique and encourge them to keep going

I teach 4-7 years olds twice a week. Here is our format:
50 min class
- Warm up - 5 to 10 mins - pretty standard BJJ stuff. forward rolls etc. lots of animal flow moves. As we run around doing movements we count up to ten, or saying "1-2 1-2". Counting seems to keep them more focused, as they are unable to chat and scream around!
- Technique - 5 to 15 mins - sometimes the kids just dont want to learn, other times it flows well so we do as much as possible. Make it a game.
- Sparring - 5 to 10 mins - as above
- Games - 20 mins or more if needed - we finish with games because regardless of how the rest of the class went they are leaving happy and tired. :)
