My daughter wants to buy me a new gym bag for my birthday. Any recommendations?

I've had my Venom bag from BJJHQ for years, tons of pockets, and lots of space, and works super well. Before that, I had the mesh Haybusa bag and that was good for like 6 years before it self-destructed.

I have yet to have a bjj bag that has withstood the test of time, but datsusara has some nice options, if you appreciate the military/sustainable thing.
Right now I'm using a "Tap Cancer Out" bag as my primary travel bag, as it fits the dimensions of most airline carry-on bag requirements, plus, all money goes toward cancer research so you really can't beat that.

I have a datsura work satchel (when I took train to work everyday - now work from home) and that was an awesome hemp bag, and the military look looks cool.

Same. My bag has held up well

I've really been digging my Fuji Comp Convertible Backpack/Duffle Bag. Good size, lots of handles and pockets, and can be worn as a backpack or a duffle bag.

Thanks for the input guys. Datsusara was one that I was seriously considering. I’ve always used a duffle bag but considering going with a backpack or convertible bag.

I have used a TVR swim backpack for years. Relatively cheap, durable, tons of pockets and made for wet stuff.

Thanks Tim. I’ll have to look into those.

There’s this company on instagram that I’ve found recently that turns gis to bags :)

That’ll be one of a kind

Very cool, although the gis in those pictures look pretty new. I've got a really old gi I'd like to get use out if and this is a perfect way to do that.

I have the Half Sumo Backpack, currently sold out but comes back into stock every now and then. It's been my most preferred bag of all of them, was using a Chrome Messenger and various duffles but this one just felt better for bringing my gear to class. https://halfsumo.com/coll[...]e-backpack Small and nondescript enough to be a 'personal item' on flights, large enough to fit two gi sets and then some. There's a 'slightly irregular' version of this on eBay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/[...]5922388840
That’s a great looking backpack. I’ll have to add it to my list.

Another vote for Datsusara. Expensive, but head and shoulders above every other bag I've ever seen. Durable too. My oldest bag is the small battlepack, which I bought in 2014. Still going, although the zip is having some issues. I've also got the large one, which is awesome. So many zips and pockets, love it!

22 years in Jiu Jitsu and I'm still just using plastic bags. Been getting a lot of heat for this over the years at competitions etc. but I'm standing my ground!

I would say Datsusara bags because I've had a duffel version and the back pack version. It's got lots of pockets, a couple of spaces to put velcro patches and it's anti microbial. Pair that with a stinky bag XL and you are in business brother. Sure they can be a little pricey but it levels out in the long run. Go with the core or pro size for sure

I ordered one of the Fuji Comp bags from BJJHQ that Nick shared the other day. Still debating ordering a Datsusara a a backup.

I'm partial to using those Mil-tec backpacks. Cheap as f, loads of pockets, good zippers. No nonsense tactical style. Costs like 40 euros. My first one lasted almost 10 years.
Why bother with those fancypants overpriced hipsterbags?

Here's the one that I use. It fits an A4 easily and I can get my son's gi in there with to with some wiggling.

I have a couple of Grips bags. Generation 1 and gen 2. Both have broken down quite fast, so I wouldn't recommend them. They do a good job of holding your gear and all, but in my opinion a bag should last more than 6 years.
I used to have Tatami's mesh bags, which were super simple, but also good. A bit too small for travel though.

I reallly like the old school gi material bags from Krugans and Dragão (perhaps others make them too). Not many pockets but enough and they really durable and look awesome.
