I was wondering if anyone has ever used a GoPro to film Jiu-Jitsu technique. Is the sound, video, and lighting good?

What exactly are you filming? I guess it depends a lot on that
Just jiu-Jitsu technique in the gym. Rolling too.

I would just use an iPhone to be honest; quality if great for simple stuff like this. If you need to move around then get a cheap gimbal.

Also, want to use it to make highlight videos.
if you want some static cameras also used for security / Ring or nest cameras work great as well.

I tend to just use my phone as it does a good job. for audio when explaining technique I've started using a lapel mic or shotgun mic and they've made a world of difference.
Do you have a mic suggestion to use with your phone?

Very interested in that too. I can't understand why there isn't already a good variety of good bluetooth lapel mics for phones.

Razer makes lapel mics. Not sure about quality though.

Searching for BT LAV mic should bring up some options.

I just use my phone on a tripod. I did once try strapping the phone to my head and filming. The results were...less than promising.

I use a Gopro Hero 8 for rolls at the gym as well as catching my competitions. Highly recommend it. Though I will say make sure you get a good tripod for it

I use my phone on a tripod.

When I can, I try to get someone to record it on my phone. (either a friend observing the roll or someone sitting a round out)

When you get a person to record the roll, you don't roll out of the frame and they can usually move to get the best angles of the techniques for you when you review your footage.

I use a directional mic: the Movo VXR10. It is cheap and has good sound quality if you want something portable and don’t want to use a lapel mic.

For microphones, you often see the higher-production folks use those square lapel mics.

Rode Wireless GO

I've seen Keenan and Lachlan using these, it makes a world of difference.

for example I love Karel Pravec's material, but they don't use a separate mic and it's always harder to hear.

Good luck with your content creation!

I use blackmagic 6k,
Canon xf605.

I also use GP9 for different angles and random rolls, but sometimes the lighting can play tricks on the sensor.

Also, most dslr cameras have decent video quality for low budget work, though if you have decent glass then you can create some great video content.

Anything made by Rode is a good low to mid level microphone company.

GoPro if your dojo is well lit. iPhone is great. There is a saying that "the best camera is the one in your hand".

Video editor for BJJ stars here. Most of them are using an iPhone with external recorder.

I am also an editor for the BJJ Fanatics and Wrestling Fanatics. They are using awesome industry camera.
