Hey guys and gals. So a fun topic yesterday with one of my friends. After I got promoted to black belt one of my friends said "Dude now you will actually get matches at tournaments!" To give you context, I am 43 almost 44, weight 150 pounds. Since purple belt not many people in my brackets and showcase or pro fights are few and far between for old little dudes that are in the color belts. I have been lucky to find willing opponents for highlight matches but have had far more canceled due to no opponent. My last match I took was a weight class up against a young man 20 years younger than me. Even so, I have to say I like the 1 fight only format very much. As I get older a long bracket just feels like torture. What do you all think?

I am in middle of masters 1 caterogry at the moment being 33 turn 34 next year. I find my brackets have 4-6 people tops at white belt. Then it drastically reduces at Blue belt and non existent above that. But yes I agree I do find having around 2-3 matches in a day is my max at comp.

I am about to turn 60 and honestly I much prefer the single match format as I would rather roll for 20 minutes straight sub only than do multiple 5 to 8 minutes with breaks in between

The lack of people in my divisions is why I prefer to compete at Worlds and do Pro shows. I have the added issue of being an Ultra-heavyweight, so my groups get super small even at Worlds. On the local, they normally have to combine weight, age, and rank to make up divisions.

I'm about your age, weight and rank... maybe a little heavier... I like doing all the formats, including judo. I think that preparing for, and competing in specific events makes you more well-rounded.

Absolutely. That time waiting between matches killed me. I always had a problem staying ready.
