Is it just me or do others also notice there are people at all belt ranks blue-black that votes yes on profile with little or no evidence of rank.

How strict are you guys when judging profiles? I need a picture of you together with your instructor or picture/video from competition or the podium while you wear the belt rank you're claiming to have as a minimum.

Pictures from training, of certificat and with other training partners is a good thing to have, but I don't find it to be enough alone. Anyone can make a certificat on Photo Shop.

I belive that when people go around and throwing points at people willy nilly it kinda defeats the purpose of this page all together.
I see blackbelts that is from the other side of the world voting yes on a profile with ZERO evidence, ZERO picture, 100 empty page. I think this is a shame and I wish people would research a bit more before voting yes.

When you vote yes on someone remember you're setting your name and your reputation on them holding the rank there page says. So you should be 100% sure they actually hold the rank.

That's kind of my approach.

Is there a picture of them with their instructor with/being awarded their current belt? Have a vote.
Is there just a picture of a certificate? Maybe have a vote, let's see what else you have as evidence.
Is there none of that? Unless you're a big name in the BJJ world and your profile is verified, no vote from me.

First approach is it confirmed by coach
Second is it verified by multiple training partners
Third do respected members vouch for them and their rank personally
Fourth is it well documented.
If it meets one or a combination of the above i tend to verify

Sometimes if I am on a boring conference call I will check social media links

clear promotion evidence and/or confirmed by certified coach and/or confirmed by multiple certified training partner and/or IRL contact

without one of these element, i don't vote.

Very. If I've never met you, then I don't vote for you.
Quite same BUT I make exceptions now and then.

Photos
Social Media
Academy websites
IBJJF Site etc

The only verification that really matters is the one between the belt holder and their instructor. The rest is all bullshit.

Just because we vote for someone it does not tie us to that person in any way other than on this site.

Remember this site is a "social experiment".
Probably, I suspect, to observe peoples behaviour in regards to BJJ and rank which by all accounts is considered "silly' by the creator of this site. ;-)

If I see this, I will either comment on the vote or dispute the profile. Just like users have the power to do bad upvotes, don't forget that we all also have an equal power to police it and shape the platform into what we each think it should be / stand for.

You should post the links to those empty profiles here that are upvoted. Then those who want to, can dispute them. I'll be happy to throw the first stone :D

It’s interesting, I’ve read a few other threads talking about this. When the site was really small I think people had to reach a point where they would dig into someone’s profile and vote for them; whether they knew that person and had rolled with them or not.

But now, there’s enough folks on here that I think it’s safe to tighten things back up and only vote for people you know and have rolled with.

I’ve rolled with everyone I voted for, except for one, but he’s from the same lineage and I know the guy who promoted him.

Christian, have you considered adding the option of tagging other site users in pictures? Just curious what your thoughts are on that.

No I don't vote unless someone's profile is sufficient filled out for me to confidently vote for someone. For me it's a lot easier for me to vote for someone that a bluebelt than it is blackbelt. The higher the belt the more evidence is needed. Time in grade, video/photo evidence is needed the higher the belt is. Competition video or picture help a lot. Social media evidence. I don't vote for someone based on who their profile was voted on by. I need the eye test. I have down voted on profiles who leave no information to vote on. My belief is if jiu-jitsu is about the details, so shouldn't a jiu-jitsu based profile.

I only upvote profiles of those with whom I have rolled, with very few exceptions. I figure it's a way to con folks to come out to my gym. But honestly if you need my vote that badly, you're probably fake anyway.

The exceptions to this rule would include famous bjj people, or otherwise very well-known grapplers in my state/region. For example, Carlos Machado is on beltchecker. I don't have to roll with him to test his level.

I think some just want the return vote maybe?
And this is why I only reconfirm votes if the person voted for me back when I initially voted for them.

Are you disputing those blank profiles you are finding?
Well I have done it a few times before, but not always. Often if they have some but not enough I write on there wall giving them some tips on what to add to get more positive votes.

HEHEHE you're ready to throw some submissions out towards these pages. Maybe I should put some examples in her when I see them again. I will concider. I am also thinking about becoming much more generous with the downvotes.

This would be a awesome thing to have. Same as you got the tag feature in your matches.

Just an idea towards adding validity. I’ve got a blue belt in my gym who I roll with regularly on here and he isn’t verified yet. I’ve voted for him, but I thought if he could tag me in one of his competition pics that would be helpful.

Send me his profile in PM and I have a look at it. I can vote for him or tell him what I need to vote on him if I can't. If you want me to do that.

Being tagged on someone's profile to verify their validity is basically exactly what the votes are already doing though :)

Interesting. I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone on here that I voted for. Pretty sure none of the people who voted for me know me personally either.

How?
I’ve been around for a while, I know people all over, so I’ll ask around in my circles, or do a Facebook scratch of them. Sometimes I have to go to their coach or instructor to get some info. Doesn’t always work, but I do my due diligence. And if I don’t feel like it’s enough for me to be happy, I don’t vote

To do my part, every few days, I'll open the list of people who need more points. I'll open about 10-15 tabs of people who aren't verified and see if I can help. I'm pretty surprised at how many people just haven't uploaded a pic. I've never downvoted anyone, but I'll pass over it if it looks incomplete. It's hard to believe that in our current age that someone could get a belt and there aren't any cameras in the room. I'm pickier now that when the site was young, but I still like to see pics of promotions, certificates, or podiums.

Yea exactly the "oh there was no pictures taken at the promotion don't fly with me. There is ALWAYS cameras around.
I do need a picture of you nextto your instructor with both in gi and with the belt clearly showing it's color.

If not I can also accept podium picture from a serious competition like a IBJJF one or other bigger organisations.
