Just curious about your experience/advice for competition: as a new blue belt (both as a regular competitor and as hobbyist who trains 3-4 times a week and sometimes when possible compete).

I Usually compete 2 or 3 times a year living in Switzerland with few events and often so far away and having a job with shitty working hours).

Is there a more specific question in there?

Do what feels fun and fulfilling to you :) Don't forget that a hobby is supposed to GIVE you more than it TAKES.

Shitty working hours = shitty recovery so factor that in around hard sessions.

Training for 4 weeks at "80%" intensity is better than training 1 week at "100%" intensity and then spending 3 weeks at "0-50%" or less due to being overtrained and/or injured!

Thanks for the reply, you're right in fact I' aiming to do 3 times consistently
Last year in competition i was too tired,in the first one i was ok and even won in no gi, the second one I got injured and could'n t fight the last round. Anyway
Since then I'm training in a smarter way, more focused, i try to be more strategic and I don't rush all the time anymore. Moreover as you said the recovery at 37 with less sleep is much worse than at 20

I asked about: your adventures /funny stories/experience or advice regarding the status of new blue belt and the first challenges you had to face. Any story about when you were new in the blue belt division and took part in competition for the first time?

I got a super boring tactical win (keep closed guard for dear life, win on advantages) over super experienced brownbelt as a bluebelt and was over the moon :D

Tapped out a black belt as a white belt, as a blue belt and also in my first tournament as a purple belt.

But every time I submitted a blackbelt I lost my very next match or a draw. 0-2-1 after beating black belts by submission. Weird stat.

White belt people are just going crazy and wasting all their energy and doing random shit.
Blue belt people are being super aggressive and wasting some energy but not all of it and maybe thinking about things which gives you more time to respond.
Purple Belt is when things get fun and you see more strategy and not just using all your energy in the first 2 minutes. People are setting you up for their specialized gameplans.
Brown Belt is when people can figure out what your trying to do and be well rounded enough to create a counter on the spot and go from just trying to force their A game into plan B and C.

Can we have that bell that rings here every time James mentions he has tapped a black belt in competition? Who is the developer around here, does nothing ever get done or what?

We also need a bell when he makes a comment less than 500-words. These are rare occasions and should be celebrated.

Random. Long comments are normally trying to prove some sorta point about something that doesn't even matter as no one thinks about anything anymore.

I am going to go the other way around and just starting saying 3 words or less like I am groot.

Back to sleep this website's forum is basically dead anyways so what else are you going to respond to?
