Seems to me from posts on Facebook that a lot of people just don't "get" Beltcheker. Personally I find a new use for it almost every week.
Curious to know how everyone has used the site so.
Heres my list so far....

- Verify teachers credentials for teaching classes or leading seminars at my academy. (we are on an island with a fledging BJJ community and often I make public calls for teachers to drop in)
- Keep track of my gradings and competitions and medals.
- Keep an eye on the competition
- I have sent my profile to a tournament to verify my own belt status for free entry.
- I shared my profile with prospective clients for personal classes and gyms.
- I shared my profile with a matsurfing host.
- Its nice to get reviews from your peers.
- Its nice to give reviews to peers.

Thanks for reading :)

I've been using beltchecker to assemble a convenient list of the BJJ practitioners who object to IBJJF policies.

We have a plan to deploy pod people dopplegangers to replace them as they sleep.

this is a most unexpected and terrifying response, but thank you for being open and honest about your intentions.

- Originally I was most excited about this being the best platform so far to document one's journey in the sport... Went pretty far to dig up my complete competition history including the name of every past opponent.
- Now I lurk here mostly for the William Murphy forum posts.

But for sure, plenty of uses already:

- Learning a bit more about your jiujitsu friends'/acquaintances' journey in the art.
- The stats are interesting, especially "Belts". Can't wait until Christian finds time to extract some more stuff out of the database.
- Some nice correspondence already.
- Forums have been a positive surprise, no doubt partly because anonymity is disabled and most people active here are black belts.
- Simply monitoring the voting activity is more entertaining than my FB/IG/Untappd feed.
- Playing a drinking game where I try to find a completed profile for which Anthony Restuccia hasn't voted for.

This. This is what’s gonna keep the site alive long term.

I'm getting such a kick out of Murphy's posts, that I check in just to see what's going on in the forums.
As to the site, I've so many former students and training partners that have moved all over the US, that I'm interested in seeing how they progress and being here to verify their history.

IBJJ has some incredibly stupid rules and the judging of those rules is very inconsistent. One of the reasons why I will never compete or possibly even attend their events again.

I think this is a fantastic site. Should be really easy to rule out fakes as it grows. Also should be great for the community overall.

Took a while to figure out where to find promotion dates. Won't even bother with stripes or competition record. :D

I have won 50 gold medals in empty brackets alone, with no one to fight.

Imagine what I could do if I had an actual opponent in my bracket.

I’d practically be a shoe in for gold or silver...

Especially if there was just two of us in the bracket.

Oh, dude, it would be the perfect chance to close out the division! The crowd would love that!

Let's avoid the IBJJF tournaments, then.

The IBJJF tournaments tend to have much less empty brackets than many other tournaments.

Because they tend to be bigger and better attended than most of the other open tournaments.

Despite often being more expensive, too.

We will therefore have more difficulty maximizing our gold and silver medals from empty or nearly empty brackets

if we enter the IBJJF tournaments.

I have been telling my students for years the best way to completely dominate a bracket with maximum efficiency is to pick a completely empty bracket.

This is why I have refused to promote Josh Leduc to first degree black belt yet.

He keeps picking brackets that are not empty when he or his students compete,

and then he and his students have to use a lot of athletic energy to win medals.

I expect my students to win medals without having to rely on athleticism.

I'll admit it. I was a hater when I heard about it. Then one of my coaches hopped on and was talking about it and I figured I'd look at it before being so judgmental. I love the interface and community and I think it has a lot of potential. I enjoy that I can have martial arts discourse with people and actualy know who they are, and I like being able to catalog my journey so far in one place.

Basically I use it as an alternative to Tinder.
Step 1: shirtless mirror selfie
Step 2: terrible pickup lines
Step 3: endless rejection

If there's a social media platform and I've heard of it, then I'm probably on it. As this is the super saiyan version (BJJ specific social media!), no way I was going to miss out.

I agree with ALL of this.

Seems like a worthwhile "experiment" and a great way to bring people from different part of the Jiu Jitsu community together. I predict this may very well become a major "player" in the BJJ socio-political dynamic over time.
