Okay,

So there's a video making the rounds of Craig Jones peer pressuring his - admittedly douchey, male student into a grappling match with another female student. Said female student then z-locks the guy, and ends his knee.

All have a jolly ol' time about it. While dudeman has a laugh too (albeit not wholeheartedly)

Hear me out.
I'm all for banter.
When I started BJJ, it wasn't uncommon for people with a big head to get cut down to size by gym enforcers. This still happens on occasion. It's not necessarily a bad thing.

But seriously.
The kid is now crippled for a year, and probably f*cked financially, and Craig makes a video about this for the lolz?

Very bad taste. I wouldn't train at a gym that treats their own students / teammates like cannon fodder, for clicks.

Maybe I'm getting soft.

Thoughts?

I’ve not seen the video but I did hear about it.
Banter is one thing, but bullying and total disregard for your training partners wellbeing is another.
Any gym that allows or cordones serious injury to its members should be avoided at all cost.
Most gyms will have seniors/gym enforcers to maintain rules and etiquette, but that is for he benefit of all who train there.
Injuring your partner and then laughing about it is unacceptable in my opinion.

Having had my knee destroyed and ending up with a permanent disability, I really feel for the kid. I hope behind the scenes they were more supportive of him.

Yup
Could be an elaborate troll.
But again, that would still show a total disregard for student safety.
Couple with their previous disdain for white belts.
Not a good look either way.

Maybe there's stuff we don't see - it was Crelinstein's little brother right?
Im visiting them in July. I'll let you know if I learn anything. ;-)

He's a Crelinstein so they likely give him harder time than regular students. These kind of accidents fucking suck and this should've been avoided completely, but if someone would have had mine on video, I wouldn't have an issue about making a humorous video out of it.

Clapping and smirking right after the deed displays dubious gym culture and the opponent's interview's belittling sexual jokes are of rather poor taste, but the instructors all blaming each other (“This is a prime example of how how terrible of a person Craig Jones is" ) and Nicky Rod trying to pronounce difficult words is funny. I love how the B-Team jokes about every damn thing (including their disdain for white belts) without a lot of consideration about political correctness but mostly make fun of themselves & each other, and don't punch down too much; the scene's been missing something like this. (Keenan used to be a funny troll but the covid seem to have made him a nutter.)

Saw the video, I didn't think it was too bad, but yeah it definitely gives the vibe that ripping someone's knee is not a big deal. Was not impressed at the lack of remorse from the girl.

A shame too about Keenan. When he and Josh had their podcast, I reached out to them during the beginning of the pandemic to share my experiences caring for pts with COVID and my experiences with it. I don’t hold it against them but I never heard back.

Interesting update here. New YouTube video. Apparently, the whole video was scripted with the aim of monetizing the video and giving the money to Ethan Crelinsten's brother. Seems like they didn't expect people to take it as seriously as they did.

Okay. I see. Still think it promotes the wrong kind of vibe. Peer pressuring people into challenge match scenarios where there's no good outcome. Bad idea.

But it goes hand in hand with the 'F those white belts - unless they pay' mentality of that gym.
