Let's talk takedowns! I feel like seoi nage is one of the most polarizing takedowns in BJJ. Some people hate that you can give up your back off a bad throw, others love its speed and ease of teaching to beginners. Because I used to love Toshihiko Koga highlights I always had a love for the throw and try to hit it when I can see it. I feel like when you do the drop knee version it can be very forgiving despite the risks and is a fun throw to use.
Let me know your thoughts on Seoi Nage! Do you use it regularly? Is it taught at your gym as part of the BJJ curriculum?

We use Seoi Nage and it's variations although my favourite throw is Koshi Guruma.

Koshi Guruma is a versatile throw and looks beautiful when someone hits it live!

Seoi nage especially the dropping version can be over used. I prefer to teach the non dropping version after my knee operation.
My theory is that if you can do a seoi nage without dropping in the club you can do a drop seoi nage in competition but not vice versa
