In Brazil it’s very common to give nicknames to people I have noticed in all sports. We see this a lot in martial arts.
Sometimes I have known people get a nickname for something completely silly and this has stuck with them for years 😂
What nicknames have you been given or know of and why?

I've been called "coach Pete" since a white belt for being a smartass and trying to give tips to the guys who've been training longer than I've been alive.
Also been called Putin because of my Eastern European descent, judo roots and resemblance to the Russian leader.
Many guys in the club also call me "Dad" since I like to post an emoji or comment every time one of them puts a photo of their mum on social media.

My professor gave me Vovô then got morphed to vovis. At the time when he gave me the nickname I was by far the oldest guy in the gym. And he started to call me that. It stuck 😂

I was called Jiujitsu Dad at my first gym as I was waaaay older then everyone else and mentored a lot of young guys with their game and in geenral, and I've also been called Jerk Jitsu due to my penchance for wristlocks and other stuff people find jerky (kesa gatame, kimura trap etc).

Any stories to share about coming back from the dead?
Died for about 20mins when I was born. 2011 supposed unloaded shotgun my idiot cousin left out went off in front of my face blew my hat off. 2014 firefighting- blown up in a house fire, acetylene tanks and oxygen tanks exploded inside house, last year thought I had covid but turned out to be adult chicken pox which nearly killed me lost about 45lbs in about 2 weeks lost my vision for about 4 days couldn't walk, could hardly breathe.

Received my nickname when training capoeira back in 2004, piri-piri was supposed to fit me (I’m small but strong and turn bright red whenever I do something strenous) It has stuck since then, at my academy most people only know me by ’piri’

There once existed a gay grappling website called Matbattle.com which took a bunch of photos from my blog and made an album called “The Danish Delight”. Needless to say, that name kind of stuck with my team mates 🤷🏼♂️

Former training partner called me "Lukkolin" which is a mash up of my last name and "submission". It was because I submitted all my opponents in some competitions.
Brazilians like to call me "Potato". I guess it's easier to pronounce than my name. And because of my IG username.
