Hi guys,
We already talk about people who need to bring enough evidences to get verified. Because the main concern of this site is about checking. We also talk about profiles not updated for the right degree in time. But now i want to know what you thing about verified people who check profile like blindman. Without any pictures, evidences or whatever, they votes with comments like "enough evidences " or "legit" WTF !? What's the credibility of a dumb vote like this one ?
I understand that some people think they are helping the community by helping others to get verified, but at least open your eyes before clicking everywhere: no pictures, no certification, just the informations the guys has wright, for a black belt or higher.... we need to keep a high level of checking.

I've definitely voted to verify people who I personally know, without having fully scrutinized their profile. Their profiles may have met 'Johan standards', or they may have not.
All I know is their rank was legit.
Maybe other people are voting this way? I doubt it though.
Thanks to the evolution of this site, I'm more hesitant to give votes, even to people I know well, because I feel that accurate representation is important.

Well, I voted for a lot of people I don‘t know personally. But I developed a standard for myself of what I check before voting. I think I was wrong in only a few cases, but that is the same with the whole system here. If everybody is working that way (and maybe with a little bit different focus) there will be only a very small amount of verified fakers in the end.
But I see the point that a) here are some profiles without any evident information verified and b) there are a few guys voting for profiles without any provided information.
The question is how to tale action against this?!

Voting for people you know and add comment can be kind of evidences as well for me. "I was there, on his/her promotion ", "we train together for years, he's legit"
Those comment can truly help my to make my opinion

The worst is “Lots of evidence, legit” votes on profiles that are literally empty 😂

But it is not a generally accepted behaviour to write a remark like "Are You kidding me?!" under such kind of votes, isn´t it?!

I do however have a question on this, I understand the zero history and not voting. That makes sense to me, but sometimes I do not understand down voting for personal reasons. Now in the attached clip from a comment that was made by the sherlock holms of Belt Checker, I get the first statement he makes "no Evidence" But then goes into some discussion about this persons Promoting Professor and court. I do not agree with that at all. I judge the person and the legitimacy of their belt not the fact that the person that might have promoted them was a dirt bag or saint. If that were the case people might down vote Cain Velasquez's BB because he is being charged with murder. There is also an example here on Belt Checker where there is a person (belt withheld because it could identify them) who was caught and charged and found guilty of treason. Do these charges make their belt promotion void? I personally just would not vote yes or no for the person, but I am not going to drag it out in a vote.

I do not agree with Johan, it go way to far on that one. It's not witcheshunt.com.
I don't think that i'm better than anybody else, as i write few weeks ago, behavior had nothing to do with belt verification. You can be the Best human in the world, you may lie on your belt curriculum, on the other side, you may be a criminal and being legit.

I agree, I'm a stickler for good substantiated evidence for purple belt and above. Video of individual rolling, pictures of belt promotion, competition evidence helps, professor's grace. Paying attention to the details!

Looks like he leads with, "no evidence". Maybe he could have just stuck with that?

I don't know Benoit, but there seems to be enough evidence to verify the claim. :)

Guys, i'm not involved into this "social projet", i'm just happy to have such a good opportunity to exchange about BJJ and helping each other to get credit for their rank when other federations (Enterprises) would only see $$$. But it would not be the same without the forum we use, and the dedication of actives members, so thanks for taking time, i'm sure that few years later in will be amazingly bigger

This is the beauty of democracy. You don't have to agree with everyone but respect their opinion. They may have their reasons you don't understand. You've got your vote so use it. Lead by example. Those extreme cases (if you think someone is too harsh or too indulgent) should drown in the sea of other votes.

I support Beltcheckers as I think it is an interesting concept a peer review site. I am also a huge fan of BJJ Globetrotters as for me this whole endeavor is what the sport should be not a big money grab. I agree with you a love the forum and the exchange with people who love the sport without all the noise of social media

Actually, I've been thinking a lot about these cases myself and have honestly not made up my final mind yet.
Does a**hole jiu-jitsu cease to be jiu-jitsu once the character of the instructor is out in the open? Perhaps not. But do we all have a responsibility to the current and future BJJ community to help marginalize the influence, status and legacy of a**hole instructors? I might be an idealist, but I actually think so. So is downvoting a good way to motivate others to work in that direction? I'm not too sure myself tbh. Perhaps ask me again next year.

As for the main topic of this thread - we need to de-dramatize downvoting for lack of evidence. Just be transparent with why and offer a reasonable way to have you turn your dispute into a verification and they are actually better off than if you hadn't voted at all (as long as they're willin to comply with reasonable standards - otherwise, the dispute can just as well remain).

Ok to de-dramatize downvoting but only if you agree to let at least one week to the new members before downvoting them 😅 because it's not welcoming to get negatives points.

Problem is there are too many blindman voters, of which at least a few actually seem to hold back their verification once there is a dispute on the profile. As there are so few actually disputing or even commenting on what the profile is lacking, after a week, the downvote might not be near as effective, as it is might then be a much lesser percent of the total points, on a profile that might even have been verified and thereafter abandoned.
Also, I think negative points is a good marker for other verifiers to spend their time on more deserving profiles. From day one.
I think it would be less of a thing of it was more of a culture and communicated from many different members right away in a polite and clear manner, also pedagogically explaining that it's not about skills but about transparancy etc. on Beltchecker and that they actually benefit from being on members' radars, even with an initial downvote, as they should want a good profile in any case and once they have completed it, the downvotes can be quickly turned into upvotes, so they don't become one of those members with year old non-verified profiles.

On the other hand, there’s also a benefit in having faults/missing stuff in your profile pointed out as early as possible so people fix them before they have received a lot of votes. Once they have a high voting score, they’re less inclined to make any changes that would require revérification / “starting over”.

Christian, the solution is maybe to take Johan to school new members, teach them everything he knows.... then spend them to the site, in a few days the order would reign again.
