I teach a Jiu-Jitsu physical education class at my college (where I work as a philosophy professor). College students are often short on cash, so I try to recommend inexpensive gis to them at the start of the semester. So far, the cheapest gi that I have found that is still reasonably decent quality is the Elite Sports Essential gi (https://www.elitesports.c[...]white-belt). It costs about $50 US.

Are there other entry-level gis that you'd recommend? I typically wear Fuji gis, which are much more expensive, so I typically don't recommend them to new students. Since we're a small college club, we can't really set up any kind of affiliate program to buy gis in bulk at a discount, so students have to purchase their own gis individually.

Many thanks for your input!

Have you tried setting up a wholesale account? When I had a wholesale account with Keiko Raca, they had the best pricing on gis and we didn't need an etn. I just used my social for the tax purposes and wrote it off at the years end.

If you watch BJJHq.com they usually sell 93 brand gis for a reasonable price. Elite is the cheapest most readily available that I have seen though.

When I taught the BJJ class at a college I had a wholesale account with OTM/Built to Fight but I don't think they're around anymore. BJJHQ probably the best deals. For no-gi attire, I'd tell them to go to Ross or Target - sometimes there were sales of $5 rashguards and $15 boardshorts.

I have a wholesale account on Zengu. As mentioned above the 93 brand is selling for like 50 and Tatami is like 65, venum has one around the 55 dollar range. I bet you could get yourself setup easily for this. I used to sell for Clinch Gear and Triumph United. I did this for the wrestling teams i was involved in to get better deals on equipment and gear. Registered myself with the state as an LLC. Submitted applications and poof had access. Maybe you can look into that.

Go with Elite. The retail alone is cheaper than most wholesale pricing. If you can get wholesale pricing from Elite, even cheaper. It's also one of the few companies that sells their gi's with white belts.

Which crazily enough when I started BJJ 9 years ago every god damned gi came with a whitebelt, I had so many white belts I didn't know what to do so I gave them to new whitebelts who needed a belt lol

I like "Your Jiu-jitsu Gear BJJ Gi". It's well made, comes in white, blue and black and doesn't have any patches or advertisements which I consider a HUGE plus. It's inexpensive compared with most of the other makers (65$ on Amazon). Sanabul also makes a decent quality inexpensive gi, but they tend to shrink a lot if you're not careful about how you wash them.

Thanks for the tips, everyone! I’ll pass these on (along with any more that come in) to my students.

That's why I like them. They are cheap, but well made enough that they last a few years. At $65 I'm happy to buy a couple of gis a year

I went with, and recommended to others, sanabul gis from Amazon. Cheap price and lasted me years until I just decided to buy a better gi.
