Posting this so everyone can take into account the requirements under the Relson Gracie Federation.

They promote differently than the other Federations and should be taken into account when voting for people of that lineage.

You can't hold them the IBJJF or other Feds standards as theirs are different.

They are and should be deemed Legit by their standards on this site.

I've read these a few times, but I'm having trouble establishing a timeline for all of this.

First, you are just a lowly black belt with a red bar, which can be awarded only by Relson, with the exception of any affiliate black belt (did I read that correctly???) And you never receive stripes on this belt.

Then, you get a white bar after 2 years of training.

Then, it's back to the red bar, but now there are professor tabs involved, and this happens after 2 years and a bunch of other stuff.

Then, somehow you presumably accumulate stripes until you're a coral belt, after 20 years of training.

Then, after 20 years as a coral belt, you can become a red belt.

So, from the time you get promoted to black belt to the day you become a red belt, you will have been training, testing and paying people for 44 years?

I was left with more questions than answers as well.

Seems like only a few folks can actually promote and then the Board of Directors takes over in the event of his death.

The "Professor in Training" wears the white bar.

I am sure someone on here can shed some light on their standards.

On Beltchecker, they won't be able to register a 7:th degree black belt (only a black/red coral belt) or an 8:th degree black/red coral belt (only a black/white coral belt).

And degrees on black after 104 hours of teaching over minimum 2 years? That's not even a class a week in exchange for cutting the standards by a whole year (or three whole years for stripe 4-6 and five whole years for stripe 7).

But degrees are only awarded on BB:s with professor bars, which you'll get after a minimum of 2 years? So first degree BB will be after 4 years? Would be in line with ordinary standards. And second degree after a minimum of two more years would also be within normal standards.

Would be 3:rd to 9:th degree having discrepancies. The 8:th degree after 2+20 years=22 years minimum v.s. IBJJF equivalent standards 38 years. The 9:th degree would be after minimum 42 years, compared to minimum 48 years with IBJJF equivalent standards.

Still, they seem to have exams for their promotions, not just time passed. On the other hand, within strict IBJJF equivalent standards, you can't accelerate the degrees no matter how skillful you would be at an exam. There's also this list https://www.bjjee.com/art[...]n-history/ , which only contain people promoted faster than the IBJJF equivalent standards. Would we up vote all of them? Perhaps only those of them who got their BB:s before IBJJF equivalent standards became established as wider standards?

The belt system on Beltchecker IS aligned with the IBJJF belt system and standards (on automatic time-served-degrees). Should you get more vote points for being-a-blackbelt-for-x-years-degree in a faster-than-IBJJF-standards-system? Why would they even need a Beltchecker verification, if their own association provides net evidence of their degree? They themselves are very strict against degrees on their students not following their own standards: "If an affiliate member wishes to achieve higher rank than recognized by the Relson Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Federation then they should seek membership in that organization and forfeit membership in the Relson Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Federation". So would it be very controversial to say that a RGJJF member wishing to achieve higher rank on Beltchecker than the common standards should forfeit their membership here? :-) If they wish for an undisputed wider recognition of rank, they could also just make sure to follow both Relson standards and IBJJF equivalent standards.

Do we even have any Relson Gracie 3:rd degree BB:s or higher here, with shorter than standard time in BB before their latest degree, or is this only theoretical for now?

All a bunch of thought play here. Haven't made up my mind how I personally would vote yet.

The road to a black belt is usually a long and hard one full of ups and downs. The average time to get promoted to black is from 8 to 14 years. It took me 12 years to get my black belt but for some BJJ practitioners, the journey was accelerated. What did they more …

Jimmy has his third degree at 9 years, so has evened out from the two earlier and quick degrees, and Josh has solved the differences between the systems gallantly by mentioning 4:th degree from Relson in a text comment but only having up to 3:rd degree (with common time standards) as a Beltchecker claimed degree.

So easy to verify both, no matter your standards!

I checked all Relson BB:s on Beltchecker and only one who I saw who is kind of breaking ordinary time standards with his latest degree is Mike Tran with 2:nd degree after 5 years in 2021. But would be 2:nd degree by now in any case, so he might even it out, at least with Beltchecker degrees, later, so not necessarily any controversy there.

So handed out a couple of up votes and no down votes :-)

Thanks, Johan. Yeah, I am not sure exactly how this will all play out. At the moment, I maintain the two ranks, my 4th degree through Relson and my IBJJF recognized 3rd degree.

I plan to keep applying for my IBJJF degrees based on their time in grade requirements. Will see how they end up doing the promos internally for the Relson org.

So, I'm 3 years away from my coral belt according to the Relson Gracie Federation? Sign me up! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

That all confused me. LOL I'm wondering if there are any other teams that have such short standards for time.

-Black belt white bar if you didn’t teach any

- Teach 2 yrs then get your Red Bar with “ Professor” stripes then your time starts for your 1st degree. Not from the time you were originally promoted.

-Black belt red bar w/ “Professor” if you taught prior to getting your black belt

-1st through 5th degree occur every 2 yrs

-6th and 7th requires 5yrs at each

-7th to 8th 2yrs

-8th to 9th minimum of 18yrs

Time in each degree may vary and senior-level promotions are at Relson’s discretion. However, promotion to Red/Black belt takes a minimum of 20 years of active training/teaching as a black belt.

I'm heard the 2 year degrees a few times since I became more involved in the history / mechanics of different organizations. I wonder who else uses something other then the 3 year marker (1st Degree - 3rd Degree) which seems the more commonly accepted standard.
