What are our feelings toward sex predators and offenders in our community as practitioners ADN ESPECIALLY as professors/academy owners?
It is my belief, as teachers and people who women come to for help, to have zero tolerance for these people that tarnish our profession and hurt the ones who need help the most, taking advantage of women's trust while in their weakest state... and in general.

Such is the case of Amit Hakim, an Israeli martial artist, a teacher, and an academy owner.
this guy is a sex offender who not only already served jail time for his attacks on several of his female students, but he has done it AGAIN after serving time.
He gave his academy to his students officially but unofficially kept teaching there and a few months back was accused/arrested again for the same crimes.
This issue and question do not come in a vacuum... he has a a profile on Beltchecker and was voted and verified as a black belt (he is a Luta livre guy... but I won't open here and now the issue of belt recognition between different martial arts as this is not the topic)

Not the topic, but he has IBJJF BB podium pics on his profile, which is enough even for me not to have cast a down vote due to lack of evidence.

I really think that we in the BJJ community should distance ourselves from sex offenders and personally, I don't up vote anyone still affiliated with such a person (and would hope that old students would change their lineage of choice to display). Still some people on here associated with e.g. Lloyd Irvin.

I am sorry but I have zero tolerance for sex offenders and in my opinion should die a slow painful death whether or not they are martial arts instructors..

I also have an issue with teachers dating students and have seen it a lot I feel it is an abuse of trust..

I've googled it and there was not much in English but I found loads of articles in Hebrew confirming what Itay is saying. I usually don't get involved in what somebody does outside of the mat and I believe that people make mistakes in their life and deserve a second chance but rape and sexual abuse isn't a mistake so rapists are excluded from this. I'm worried he could use beltchecker verification to lure in more students so I will downvote his profile with the comment that my down vote has got nothing to do with his legitimacy as martial artist. I feel like you guys should do the same but it's your own decision.

You positively verified this guy on the beltchecker though, Philip. It is your choice however if you separate him being a scumbag and a legit black belt and choose to leave your vote as it is.

I voted for the guy too and withdrew my vote once this came out.

To be fair Phil verified his belt not his character. Phil's character is not and should not be in question.

The votes he received have nothing to do with his acts.

No one on here had prior knowledge either way with the exception of Itay.

Cameron Earle is a legit black belt who happened to be a violent rapist. Amazing Jiu Jitsu but a degenerate person.

No one knew until he got caught by DNA match from what I remember.

I didn't meant to attack Philip. I'm sorry if it was phrased in the way it can be taken this way. I thought maybe he missed or forgot the fact he voted this way as it was 3 years ago. Like I said above if he chooses to leave his vote as it is because character and legitimacy of the belt are 2 separate issues for him it won't change the way I look at Phil and from what he posts on here he seems like stand out guy.

^^^This. And I get that the post this was in response to was not an attack on Phil. There was recently a thread about voting based on character that Phil was a significant contributor to. IIRC he stated in that thread that he struggled with this issue with his own students and tried to separate one from the other. He also said that on here he was solely voting for whether or not the belt had been legitimately awarded. If he believe it had been, it got a vote. If he didn't believe it was legit, he simply didn't vote.

We all have our own criteria for voting. If you choose to include character in your vote, you probably should not be voting for people you do not know first hand. If you are strictly stating whether or not you believe they were legitimately awarded their belt by competent authority, the evidence posted is all you need. Unfortunately, there's really not a good way to distinguish between the various criteria we've all established for ourselves and let everyone else know what those criteria are.

Changed my vote.. I don't care how good a practitioner or teacher he is.. I needed to downvote as I can't be part of helping him lure more victims .. I actually changed my vote right before going to the forum but thank you for pointing it out to me

By the way I in no way took it as an attack.. I normally verify based on my belief of the simple question has he legit received the belt and leave the persons character out of it.. That said with sexual predators all bets are off and people need to be warned fist and foremost..

And I do struggle with the whole behavior issue in ranking as I come from the Burmese arts and we don't really have rank and fighting ability and character are looked at as 2 separate things

People are going to disappoint occassionally. Even if you know them personally, we've all been wronged or shocked by the wrongdoings of those within our community at some point (if you've been around long enough and aren't oblivious.) Voting to approve their belt as being legit only to find out later that they did something heinous isn't a reflection on you or the voting system on this site - it's just life.

Act nice like we are oblivious. Then just make sure every belted guy knows what’s up. Then just smash em until they quit.

For someone that's just a douche that's fine. They have a chance of changing their ways. If you're just mean until they quit they'll just think you're mean. For a convicted rapist you're better off just kicking them out of the gym and telling them why so they know exactly what's up.

For what it’s worth, Haim Gozali has tweeted that he has ‘taken’ this monsters blackbelt and he does not represent him anymore.

Well, furthermore there is no evidence for a legit BB-promotion provided on the beltchecker-profile (especially when Haim Gozali is not willing to cover the promtion by his name any more). 💁🏻‍♂️ No promotion pic, no certificate, not even a IBJJF ID. - I assumed that peers who know Haim Gozali trusted in his decision to promote and voted.

I tweeted him directly and he said he’s going to release a statement on Sunday.
Any idea where this statement will be released?

From Google translate:

After receiving loads of messages I decided to clarify a few things regarding Amit Hakim. Several years ago he requested that I sign him with the IBJJF organization for a black belt so that he could compete.
I said, he paid his debt to the company,
I will help him..
After all the new publications about him lately, I deny him the black belt, and announce that he has nothing to do with my organization "Renzo Gracie Israel" or me.
I will not allow people who commit crimes of this type to be under me.

With this information it is quite clear to me:
Aside of the crime aspects and any other discussions, there seems to be absolutely no evidence for a legit BB any more.💁🏻‍♂️
