🙈😆
It depends on Your individual predisposition.

I know people who got cauliflower ears after only a few lessons and I do not have cauliflower ears by myself after >40 years of grappling…..💁🏻‍♂️
-That is the answer to Your next (anticipated) question as a bonus.🤪

I grew up wrestling and, like 95% of males my age, watched the beginnings of the UFC. I had always wondered, so one day in 2006 I found myself in my first no-gi Jiu Jitsu class. I kicked everyone’s ass till each and every opponent I faced either submitted me or choked my ass out. The perfect double leg right into some silly guillotine thingy. I was addicted from day one.

Never had cauliflower ear either. Learned to drain and squish early on and I have really flexible ears.

How long did it take you to become addicted to BJJ?
Hello, I started to practice MMA but when I was trained NOGI! I am directly become addicted to NOGI after that when I wanted to become more stronger on the mat. I bought a GI and I became addicted to BJJ

I HATED jiu-jitsu the first few years. I trained in an MMA gym and it just came with the territory, but I started at a gym with a bunch of huge people that smashed the crap out of me and I didn't seem to improve. Even after I got my blue belt I still felt behind the curve, and it wasn't until earning my purple that things got more serious. I developed my love for the art in that transition from blue to purple.

I walked through the door after my first class completely dehydrated and pasty white. My wife looked at me and said “Are you ok? It was that bad!” I said “No, it was amazing!” I loved it from the beginning. My wife however is a different story especially when I broke finger at my second class.

I started as a 38 years old self confident Judo BB just to have a look what kind of „hot new stuff“ this „BJJ“ is. A bunch of totally weird and tough guys kicked my ass.
I was instantly addicted to BJJ and from the start I knew that I found the missed link in my grappling world.

I've been at it just over 9 years and I'm not sure I am addicted to it. I actually look forward to taking some time off once in a while.

Im not sure if it was jiu jitsu i got addicted to. Martial arts have been part of my life since age 6. I just found a really cool Community in BJJ and the art is interesting enough to deep dive in. Ive done several striking arts as well but hated the little injuries I got almost every training. Jiu jitsu is much more for giving in that sense.

I definitely don't get a bunch of little injuries in BJJ. It is implied that injuries can heal. I just keep adding to the list of permanent minor disabilities.

My wife tells people that my real hobby is physical therapy. At any given time I can have a TENS machine on with ice packs in various places.

How long did it take you to become addicted to BJJ?
Depends what you mean by 'addicted'. Addiction to anything isn't healthy, so I try to balance BJJ with other stuff (reading, Warhammer, art, music, salsa, etc).

In my case, I've never been a 'train every day I can' person. I am on the mats every weekday now, but that's because it has become my job. I don't think BJJ has ever been my favourite thing in the world.

In fact, I should really train more, in terms of sparring especially. As one of those other fave things of mine is biscuits and cake, NOT a good idea in your 40s. ;)
