I was just wondering until what degree you can promote others if your own current degree is a Blackbelt (no stripes)

If I’m not mistaken you can promote anyone up to brown belt, but can’t promote anyone to black belt until your 2nd degree

I play it pretty conservative and don't promote anyone past purple without at least a 1-stripe black belt "signing off" on the promotion.

Up to brown belt with four stripes.
Formally, you really shouldn't promote someone to BB "under supervision of", "with permission from" etc. a legit 2:nd degree BB. If you promote someone to BB "together with" a legit 2:nd degree BB or higher, it's formally really them doing the promotion. I personally think BB:s promoted in that way need to be very transparent about it on Beltchecker, writing out the degrees of the promoting instructors and first and foremost writing the name of the higher ranked BB promoting (e.g. "senior co-promoter" can be used as a label). If you enter into such an arrangement as a 0:th or 1:st degree BB, for the sake of your student, you really should help them get documentation from the senior BB that they stand by the promotion. Obvious promotion photos, diplomas etc. Especially if the senior BB is not even present physically, where the junior BB promoting is formally acting as a proxy. I've seen far too many of these promotions having zero evidence showing the involvement of the senior BB. Also really sucks for the promoted BB if there is later a fallout between their teacher and the senior BB. Seen a lot of those too.

not quite my question about the BB stuff but thanx for explanation
what I meant was until what belt below my own Blackbelt (no stripes) I can promote.
officially it seems to be up to brown with 4 stripes.
that's all i needed to know.
thanks very much,

Promoting up to brown and to BB only after earning a 2nd degree.
That is from my pov the setting, most BB would be fine with.💁🏻♂️
I did not promote anyone to anything since beeing a BB so far.
On the other hand I think You can do whatever You want, once You are a damn BB! 🤙🏼😆
[Nevertheless I do not vote to verify a BB promoted by another BB 0 degree.]

thanx for your POV,
I think i find myself comfortable with that too.
would be strange to promote someone to the same level as yourself.
