Just saw that the legend Pedro Sauer completed his profile here. I noticed that some of his promotion dates aren't exactly proper and was wondering if we were doing a pool for how long it took for someone to down vote him based on that.

Hmmm, did Helio have 2 or 3 stripes on his black when he awarded Pedro is black belt? lol ... awesome that we have a red belt on here!!
Edit: Just checked, we have 5 verified red belts here. Impressive!

There are no actual promotion pics.
But is Helio was only a red belt how can he promote to Redbelt.. I have heard nothing about Helio have a second degree Red.
I am sorry there are just people who get an automatic vote to verify

Helio promoted black belt ranks every two years and you could only miss Abo it two weeks training during that time. The current standard of promotion that everyone talks about was developed and is upheld by the IBJJF. If you’re not under them the years between ranks can vary. Which is funny we put so much emphasis on them here since most of us here are here because we don’t want to be IBJJF.
There are also several large groups that still don’t follow the IBJJF standard. Relson, GU, the Valente Bros all don’t. Relson still uses the 2yr rule as Helio did.
Helio was a 10th degree, so he could make an 8th. Also, being one of the founders seems like that should allow him too as well. Plus, Pedro was promoted by a group, as his profile says.
Another fun fact, black belts use to be promoted by merit and not just time. After all, if you’re not getting better (insert any definition you’d like) and/or regular training should you get promoted? I’ve seen guys who’ve stopped training get promotions in the IBJJF (and a couple on here as “time served”). How does that make sense?

Would be same degree now anyways, calculated with IBJJF equivalent intervals.
Disputing degrees of an extremely well known someone who got black in the 80:s and got his promotions from Rickson and Helio, that's actually a bit over even my pay grade. Somewhere, even I have a limit to where I take common knowledge and evidence outside of their profile as evidence enough. That's also where I settle when I track lineages up in order to to verify them.

That's a little disappointing. I completely agree with your logic, but was looking forward to witnessing the fallout.

Pedro Sauer story: Allen Hopkins was staying with Pedro in Brazil back in the 90’s when knife wielding maniac came to the door and tried to get in and was wandering around outside. Terrified, Allen called for Pedro to let him know what was going on, Pedro was in the shower and came down in his towel like “WTF”, wasted no time and simply opened the door and WENT OUTSIDE. Pedro confronted the guy, said something in Portuguese, guy left and Pedro came back inside and said to Allen “Why the fuck didn’t you do anything?”. Allen was dumbfounded and said “Well…professor.. I mean he had a knife…”. He said Pedro just gave him a disappointed look, shook his head and went back upstairs. 😂. I really hope GM Sauer can remember this and add some details.🤞

I'd ask him next time I see him but as a lowly brown belt I'd be afraid he'd decide to murder me for asking ;) I'll ask my professor if he's heard the story LOL
