If you wear a knee brace whist training, I'd like to know what brand and your rating out of 5. I bought the Anaconda one and in my opinion, it sucks. I fell for the B team advertising. lol.

I use Mizuno knee pads everyday. They are low profile and inexpensive. When I wear a pair down, they are cheap enough to replace.

See I have multiple knee braces from over the years because I have hyper extended my tendon and a torn meniscus. So I've used ace and muller and copper sleeves. I have a McDavid that has nice support but I do like my anaconda it fits snug with the straps for no slip but just like my McDavid it has that gel knee cap and seems to contour to my knee and grip the leg. The gel knee support is what best part is to keep my knee cap in place is biggest seller.

I use cheap shoppers drug mart neoprene braces.

They are cheap and they suck just as much as the more expensive ones without the added cost.
Hope this helps.

I use these, and would rate them a 5:

https://www.spud-inc-stra[...]eve-1-ply/

These work perfect for my purposes, keeping things slightly compressed and supported, my joint warm, just a little something between me and the mat…perfect. Also extremely durable, and I doubt they will ever loose elasticity.

The sizing guide is extremely useful (and accurate) helping solve the,”well, I GUESS these will stay put” question.

Got turned onto these at an AZ Camp a few years ago, and have just been the answer I needed. Maybe there the answer you need too? 🤷‍♂️👍

I heard many good things about them. What makes them so good? Do they hold up pretty well during training? Thanks in advance.

The sizing chart is spot on. (Make sure you measure each leg separately though if you are going to get one for each)

The compression is "just right" when sized right. There are some other guys at my gym with other braces that have issues with them being to tight/restrictive. Ive' never felt that.

They do hold up very well. I even use one set outside the gym when I'm working sometimes. I tore a small hole in the knee about a year ago and that hole has not unraveled anymore, as an example. As for the training side they stay put, as mentioned don't restrict too much and give me the support I need. I wash them after every session as well so each set gets washed 1-2 times a week.

Before wearing them I was at the point of not being able to run, even on the mats during warm ups, and was in constant pain when doing things like playing open guard. (I had previous injuries to my knees from racing motocross for 20 years or so) Over the last couple of years that has all but gone away and my knees feel so much more stable with them. Even after a 2 hour open mat session. I do realize part of that is my muscles getting stronger where they need to for BJJ but I don't think I'd have been able to get to this same point, at least not at this pace without them.

Really the only possible downside I can think of with them is the price, but even then they qualify for HSA/FSA since they are a real knee brace so at least there's that.

Hope that helps some and if you have any other questions let me know.

Thanks for your time. That was very helpful. You mentioned you have three of them. Do you have the A3 arthritis knee brace? If so did you feel that much of a difference?

And how long does each one last?

The price of the Bauerfeind are pretty high compared to others but I haven’t found any that I am happy with. And the cheap ones I been buying doesn’t last long. I usually go through couple a year.

Thanks in advance

I have 3 pair (6 braces altogether) of the Bauerfeinds. Both my knees are bad so I wear a brace on both knees. I bought 2 pair so I could have time for them to air dry between sessions and as mentioned bought the third for outside work type activities.

I don't have the A3 arthritis. The only other knee braces I've ever had were for racing and they were prescription carbon fiber braces. Completely different. Looking at their site though, it looks like the difference between what I have and the A3 arthritis is the patella cup. The only negative thing I could see with that version is the patella cup being a bit larger and having the "massage nubs" could prove to be a pain when you are on your knees. i.e. top 1/2 or in someone's closed guard Again though I am only speculating on that.

As for lasting, I bought them back in November of 2022, have and still do, train roughly 6 hours per week with them, and none of them show any signs of stretching or wear.

Also the ones I wear for working have been thru the ringer really. I do machine work and excavation work so they are in dirty, sweaty, nasty environments a lot and again are no worse for the wear.

They are a lot more expensive but I believe in this particular case you get what you pay for.

Thanks Dan! I am going to give it a try. I have tried so many brands and are all mediocre. I don’t mind spending the money if it is going to give me more time to play.

Let me/us know what your impressions are after you have them. Interested in "different knees" opinion of them. :)

I use a Shock Doctor 875 and had no issues, strong 5 out of 5. It's a little pricey but is built to last and worth it in my opinion. The fact it also has metal braces and hinges either side adds a massive amount of support and reduces internal and external rotation. The braces are well padded both inside and outside so impact against you or a training partner isn't an issue and you can use the sleeve without if you just want minor support and compression. Although I do feel like the concaved section at the rear of the bracings help to keep the sleeve firmly in place and reduce slippage. I've recommended them to a few guys who've had knee issues and everyone who's made the purchase has had nothing bad to say and it's kept them on the mats. I will say that it can be a little awkward getting the braces in and out for washing at first but becomes a little easier as you get the method down. I've had mine for around 2 years after my knee went pop and it's always in my bag just in case the old injury decides to start playing up. You'll find it on amazon under Shock Doctor 875 Ultra Knee Support with Bilateral Hinges. They do make a few cheaper versions without the metal braces but can't speak on how good they are.

Had it for over a week now, and really like it. I only bought one so I can feel the difference in real time.

Pros:
It stays on. Good compression and rang of motion. The material feels breathable, don’t smell bad like some knee pads. It doesn’t bunch up behind the knees. Some of the knee pads can be painful after wearing it for a while. It feel like I am not wearing knee brace but have no pain when I am training.

Cons:
Not much to complain about except just a little more padding around the kneecap.

I had a partial meniscus debridement in April and am just getting back to rolling. I have a Bauerfiend GenuTrain and a pair of Anacondas. So far, I prefer the Bauerfiend. It stays in place pretty well during rolls and provides decent support. Only con is it bunches behind the back of the knee sometimes and I have read readjust it, but it otherwise stays in place well.

I will only do BJJ if I have my knee braces on. My knees don't have any specific issues, but I have insanely sharp knee caps and shins that actually hurt myself as much as other people.

The McDavid neoprene knee sleeves with the gel knee cap cushioning are my faves and what I've been wearing since blue belt.

Marketing aside, I do personally wear Anaconda braces. They're not the mot structurally supportive thing out there but I'm after cushioning more than anything and the gel cups around the kneecap are great.

I’ve had my knee rebuilt twice.

Tried all kinds of different braces:
Bauerfield
Anaconda
Etc.

For just moderate day to day training th best I have found is the Old Bones Therapy knee sleeves. They keep the patella stable and offer support but are not too aggressive. They also stay in place.

Couple of my coworkers use them also and we teach combatives for a living/train BJJ every day.
