Hey folks, this is likely more a question for gym owners. Do you have posters of skin diseases/skin infections in the changing rooms or elsewhere? If you don't, why not? If you do, are you particularly fond of the poster you have and would feel comfortable sharing it. I know that there are lots of pros/cons as to whether or not these posters should be up and where. So I'd love to hear some opinions and see some examples that people like/dislike. Thanks for sharing.

Im not a fan. The occcurences of infectious rashes has been very low in my gym. And any time somebody did get an infection it came out in the open and measures were taken. I dont think we should treat BJJ like a pack of cigarettes, since the former is actually positive to mental and physical health and we want to encourage people to come in and train. There are risks involved, and by keeping an open discussion going, people get informed. Thats just my 2 cents though.

That's fair. I agree with that in concept. But we have over 1,000 students at my gym and over 500 of them are BJJ. We also share the mat with 100+ wrestling students and some days MMA and Muay Thai use the same mats. So even when someone (non bjj) trains with a cold, it makes a huge dent on the attendence. I think of it more as informational than like a warning on a pack of cigarettes.

I can't speak to what the situation is in the European nations, but in the US the lawyers have made it such that you treat almost everything like a pack of cigarettes or you get your butt sued off. California has Proposition 65 which basically says if you are selling a commodity you either have to spend thousands of dollars proving it doesn't cause cancer or you have to put a warning on it that it may cause cancer. This is spreading to other states that tend to follow California off the cliff on environmental and health issues.

Fair point, here we just have insurance and its not a big deal as far as medical expenses go. Of course we educate our members about BJJ related issues. Its just common sense. And Im pretty sure BJJ doesnt cause cancer haha. Also have to mention that my gym has about 150 members total which is indeed a different scale than 1000+ members.

The gym does send emails regularly reminding people about what the situation is and what they should look out for. But I think, the advantage of having it in locker rooms (and why it was good that we had in my wrestling rooms back in high school and college) is that when people are changing, they see things and comment on it. I don't want to create the same "pressure" situation as for a bunch of kids when poeple at BJJ are (mostly) adults. But in that group of 1000, there are also kids programs (about 250 kids in total) and they use the mats and locker rooms and probably don't read emails. I just think it's a public safety thing.

I have checked Google images and there are a few that I see being used that aren't as intensive or aggressive as the ones I remember, but still informational. That's why I was kind of hoping I would get some suggestions here.
