Hi everyone,
Is there anybody from Korea on beltchecker ? I receive on my instagram
or Facebook wall, some short videos of BJJ techniques done by some korean Black belt. Those vids show pretty good jiujitsu techniques, well executed. So i was curious, how's did Korea on the international bjj scene ? Have you guys heard about it ?

I was in Korea for many years and I know the founder of BJj in Korea. His name is John frankl and he is An absolute wizard. He was the first one to open schools there. Now he has black belts all over the country. Train with Rickson and also represents SBGI Matt Thornton, and that crew. One of the most legit practitioners I’ve ever ever met

A skirt on the mat -blogger, Katie was in Korea for a while, I think. (Great blog btw.) There might be some info on the blog posts about training there.

I was recently in Kyoto and I rolled with a visiting Black Belt from Korea, great guy! late 40's, fun roll, great attitude, and also a Kitesurfer ^^
He said he was involved with Lucas Lepri schools in Korea, and before that linked with Machado.
In Japan it feels somewhat common to have visitors from Korea, and that the sport is growing in popularity in the major cities of Korea, with loads of gyms.

I'm surprise by everything in life 😉
I'm driving a Hyundai and have an Samsung phone so i'm pretty aware of korean high technical skills, but i didn't know yet how and how much bjj is growing right there.
By the way, i may ask the same for Togo, Mongolia or Peru, my mind was just pointing Korea because of instagram shorts.

Japanese and Korean BJJ is definitely under-represented on beltchecker, but that's more of an awareness and language barrier thing
I've been name-dropping this site and open-source community approach to my Japanese friends whenever someone complains about IBJJF, but almost none have actually registered for this alternative,
yet ^^

I lived there for about four years and it was some of the hardest roles I’ve ever had in my life. Not only are the BJj practitioners there super committed, but most of them are also judo black belts hahah
